Roy Parker

Roy Parker was born in Neshoba County, Mississippi, on Wednesday, June 18, 1941, to the late J P and Natha Parker. He was one of 10 children. Roy departed this life on Friday, October 4, 2019, at the Delaware Hospice Center, in Milford, Delaware, at the age of 78, surrounded by his family and pastor. Roy received his education at CH Boler High School in Decatur, Mississippi. He came to Delaware and found employment at Draper King Cole in Milton, Delaware. Roy soon met the love of his life, Mary Allen. They were married on October 15, 1966. From that union they had two children. Roy also worked for Steiners in Milford, Delaware, for 16 years. He was later hired at the Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) in Georgetown, Delaware, and was soon promoted to Sergeant. He worked at SCI and other correctional institutions in the state, for 20 years, before retiring. Roy was the visionary and part owner of Roy’s Lawn Care Service. He loved being outdoors. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, canning, cooking and bossing everyone. At one time Roy had his own trucking business and traveled to several states. He was a beautiful husband, wonderful father and great provider. Roy gave his heart to the Lord and was a member of St. John 2nd Baptist Church in Millsboro, Delaware. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jesse, John Wesley and Cormac Parker; and one sister, Mattie Ruth Boler. Roy leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 53 years, Mary; a very special aunt, Bertha Turner; a daughter, Linda Bowen of Rochester, NY, two sons, Roy A. (Lavoney) of Harrington DE and Jerome K. (Sharon) of Millsboro DE; a dear daughter, Gwen Allen of Salisbury, MD; six grandchildren, Taishenia Bowen, Justin Bowen, Samuel Jones, Jermaine Lambert, Kim Taylor and Bryan Collick; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Curtis (Pam); sisters, Dorothy, Deloris, Helen, Fay (Moses); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special recognition to Brian Prigg, MD and his staff for their faithful and caring attention to Roy, the doctors and staff at Johns Hopkins, the Delaware Hospice Center and our children who spent many comforting hours with dad and mom.
