ROSETTA’S JOURNEY Rosetta Cannon, affectionately known as Roro, Grandma Roro, Rose, and Aunt Rosie transitioned to her heavenly home at the age of eighty-four (84), quietly and peacefully in her sleep on May 2, 2024. Rosetta was born on February 11, 1940 to the late Anna Buck Cannon and James Claus Cannon in Marion Station, MD. She was educated in Somerset County public schools and attended John Wesley Church. In her early years, she moved to Crisfield, MD. Crisfield is where she enjoyed listening to her favorite Gospel songs while taking leisurely car rides around town and spending time with all her family and friends. Rosetta had a special and unbreakable bond with her brother-in-law, Abe, and baby sister, Loretta whom she deeply loved and would laugh and talk with on the phone every day. When she knew Loretta and her family were coming to visit, she would be so excited and couldn’t wait to see them. She also enjoyed kidding and carrying on, on the phone with her nieces and nephews and always tried to act like their matchmaker. When they came to visit, they would always bring her special foods and treats that she enjoyed. Her grandchildren, Montie and Twan who lived out of town, held a special place in her heart. Whenever her granddaughter came to visit, she would always send her on a mission to get her favorite fish sandwiches and crab cakes around town. Her grandson Montie remembers her most for her loving and welcoming spirit. He says every time he walked into her home, it felt like home. She would always greet you with, “Hey baby cakes! What you know good? Did you eat yet?” Then the jokes would start flying! Next thing you knew, you’ve been over at her house for three hours and have enjoyed three meals. Montie and Twan always appreciated just having random conversations about whatever and enjoyed simply spending quality time with her. The quality time spent with her will forever be cherished. Rosetta held her great grandbabies, Dontrey, De’oni, Zalen and Alannah close to her heart and adored them immensely. Every time they would come to visit their grandma Roro, the smile on her face would light up the room immediately. They remember all of the times she would smother them with hugs and kisses until she was nearly worn out. She would always sneak her great grandbabies' money under the table and tell them not to tell anybody followed by a chuckle and a smirk on her face. They will miss her warm, loving nature and how she could turn a rainy day into a beautiful one. Her sense of humor was one of her most endearing qualities. She had a quick wit and a knack for making people laugh and brightening the lives of those around her. She always loved to talk on the phone and her conversations were always filled with laughter. Rosetta was simply a colorful and passionate person who loved her family. Her joy in life was sharing a friendly conversation with loved ones and people she met along the way, leaving them in tears of joy and laughter, which created new friendships and more love. No one could tell her who was off limits; she loved and befriended whomever she wanted. Rosetta was who she was, and her vibrant and lively personality never changed throughout life. If you wanted to hear about life, you could always knock on Rosetta’s door and hear the truth and as a bonus, leave laughing. Her son-in-law, Donnie, whom she affectionately called her son and loved dearly, looks back on the memories of her waiting for him to bring fresh blue crabs from Virginia. She would occasionally ask him to sing, knowing he couldn’t carry a note. But the real reason for asking was to make everybody in the room laugh. Rosetta was blessed to give life to her only child, her daughter, Puddin whom she loved deeply. Their relationship is the true meaning of mother and daughter LOVE, which encompasses deep affection, care, and the willingness to support and prioritize one another’s well-being and being there for one another no matter the circumstances. Puddin adored her mother and faithfully ensured that her every need was met. At the end of this journey, as we bid farewell to our beloved, Rosetta, we are reminded of the profound impact she has had on each of us. Her presence illuminated our lives with warmth and laughter, and her legacy of love will forever remain etched in our hearts. Though we mourn her absence, we find solace in the memories we shared and the knowledge that her spirit will continue to guide us. As we navigate the days ahead, may we find comfort in each other’s embrace and strength in the enduring love we carry for Rosetta. Goodbye, Rosetta, you will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. She leaves to share a lifetime of precious memories: sister, Loretta (Abe)Tisdale of Philadelphia; daughter, Cynthia (known as Puddin) (Donnie)Brown of Virginia; grandson, Montro (Chisa)Brown of North Carolina; granddaughter, Tawanna (Paul) Chism of Florida; four great grandchildren, Dontrey Fields, De’oni Chandler, Zalen Brown and Alannah Chism; (7) nieces, Barbara Whittaker of Crisfield, MD, Beverly and Natalie Whittaker, both of Princess Anne, MD, Tonya Cannon (Kent) of East New Market, MD, Marsha (Calvin) Townes of Baltimore, MD, Michelle Cannon (Henry) of Salisbury, MD and Faye (James) Lake of Salisbury, MD: (8) nephews, Pastor Claude (Kyia) Whittaker of Seaford, DE, Anthony Cannon of York, PA, Terry (Iva)Whittaker of Crisfield, MD, Andre (Erica) Tisdale of Burlington, NJ, Paul Cannon of St. Michael’s, MD, Wilson Cannon, Jr. of St. Michael’s, MD, Marcus (Latosha) Cannon of Salisbury, MD and Owen Cannon, Jr. of Marion Station, MD; (12) great nieces and nephews, and a host of great great nieces and nephews and friends. Bonus niece and nephew are Brenda Fletcher Dale of Snow Hill, MD and Mike Davis of Crisfield, MD. Rosetta also leaves to cherish memories: Forever Friend and Father of her Only Child, Donald F. Fletcher, Forever Fletcher Family of New Church, VA and Forever Buck Family of Calvert County, MD. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: two sisters, Margaret Cannon and Rebecca Whittaker; three brothers, James (Jim) Cannon, Wilson (Turk) Cannon and Owen Cannon; niece, Fredia Cannon and nephews, George Whittaker and Kevin Cannon.
