Rosa Olivia Milbourne

Rosa Olivia Stevenson Milbourne, daughter of the late Ira Thomas and Ollie Purnell Stevenson, was born on April 7, 1925 in Girdletree, MD. She transitioned peacefully into the Father's arms on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD. Rosie, as she was affectionately known, was educated in Worcester County, Maryland. She worked for many years in a poultry processing plant and later at the Worcester County Board of Education where she retired after 12 years of dedicated service. Rosie loved the Lord and boldly sang His praises in all circumstances. She was an original member of the Golden Trumpets, a female gospel choir which traveled throughout the Eastern Shore for over two decades spreading the Lord’s gospel. Even in sickness, her melodic voice could be heard throughout the Snow Hill Nursing Home singing her favorite hymn, Precious Memories. Rosie was a lifelong member of Collins Temple AME Church in Snow Hill. She served in many capacities over the years including: Senior Choir President, Trustee, Steward, Stewardess, Missionary, Pianist, Cook, and Church School Teacher. A true missionary at heart, Rosie faithfully visited the sick, bringing joy and love through song. She was always there for anyone in need of a helping hand. As the matriarch of the Stevenson family, taking care of those she loved came easy to Rosie. She was a devoted wife for forty-two years and as a young mother of two, she took the task of raising her three younger siblings after the death of their mother. As a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, she was sure to be present for every event and could always be counted on for a sweet treat, like her homemade ice-cream or sweet potato pie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zack; two brothers, Randolph Stevenson and Thomas Stevenson, Sr.; one sister, Nettie Smith; and one granddaughter, Ruby Mock. Rosie leaves to cherish her beautiful spirit and fond memories: two children, Alice Stevenson of Snow Hill, MD and Sherwood Stevenson of Lawton, OK; one sister, Annie Mae Copes (Tom) of Snow Hill, MD; one sister in law, Kassie Stevenson of Girdletree, MD; one brother in law, Luther (Mildred) Milbourne, Sr. of Snow Hill, MD; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
