Roland Rayfield Wilson

Obituary On August 8, 2024, an Angel came and took from our midst, at the age of seventy-nine (79), our beloved Roland Rayfield Wilson, affectionately known as “Rollie or Shaky.” Roland was born on February 16, 1945 at Kent and Queen Anne’s County Hospital in Chestertown, Maryland. Roland was educated in the Queen Anne’s County Public School system. He held several jobs before retiring from Local 199 Union out of Wilmington, Delaware. Throughout his life, Roland attended and enjoyed going to church in Pondtown. However, it was through the guidance of Pastor Cliff Coward, that Roland rededicated his life back to Christ in December 2019 which made his transition “A Celebration of His Life.” Before becoming ill, Roland had several interests. He was a skilled pinochle player, he enjoyed painting houses, reading, and gardening and he loved singing and dancing. You would often find him in his home listening to music because he loved music. Spending time with family and friends was something he took to heart, and he especially loved being around his children and grandchild. However, his favorite interest was “ATTENTION.” Roland loved being the center of attention and always wanted to have “the floor” where he had the opportunity to captivate everyone. Roland would say “I have the floor, let me talk.” He was very animated when telling one of his many stories about growing up and his life experiences. Whenever “Rollie’s” name was mentioned, chances were there was a funny story to go with the name. When anyone asked Roland how he was feeling, his reply was always the same, “I’m getting away with it.” When Roland became sick and could no longer care for himself, he moved to Virginia to be with his oldest daughter and son-in-law. While living in Virginia, there he also captured the hearts of everyone who knew him, including Wanda Broaddus and Deloris Brooken-Gary, who were his personal aids. Roland was preceded in death by both of his parents, Allen, Sr. and Mildred Wilson, his three brothers, Allen, Jr., Leonard and Tinley Wilson, two sisters, Helen and Bessie Mae Wilson and a nephew, James Wilson. Roland leaves to cherish his memories: one son, William Daniels; two daughters, Carla (Carlon) Clarke and Lisa (Sam) Hicks, as well as two “bonus daughters,” Darlene and Angel; two sisters, Elouise Deaton and Valerie (Gregory) Campell; two brothers, Larry (Gwen) Wilson and Winfield (Mamie) Elliott; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family friends.
