Roger Sherman Polk Sr.

Obituary Roger Sherman Polk, Sr. was born on July 19, 1935, to the late Clarence Polk and Rosa (Jones) Polk. He gained his heavenly wings on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland. Roger received his formal education in the public schools of Wicomico County, graduating from Salisbury High School in 1954. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge in October 1962. Roger returned to the Eden, Maryland area and became employed with Mayflower Moving Company and various manufacturing companies. He worked at Crown, Cork & Seal for over thirty (30) years, retiring in 1998. A founding and faithful member of Mills Memorial Baptist Temple for thirty-two (32) years, Roger served on the missionary ministry, food pantry ministry, custodial ministry, Men’s ministry, Men’s Choir ministry and he loved working around the church. Roger loved to work with his hands, making barbeque grills, picnic tables, toy boxes, wishing wells, conversation benches, and many other creations. He loved to go fishing and going to thrift stores in the community with Halo Bargain Center being his favorite spot. He was loved and admired by many and will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Loving memories of his life will be cherished by: his five children, Arlene Polk of Virginia Beach, VA, Mabeline Polk of Salisbury, MD, Roger Polk, Jr. (Kecia) of Salisbury, MD, Monica Polk of Salisbury, MD and Tracey Ballard (William) of Virginia Beach, VA; eleven grandchildren, Zulekha Jones, Michael Stanford, Jr., Donte Jones, Isaih Stanford, Sr., Sharod Jones, Erica Polk, Ashia Johnson, Ariel Polk, Rogela Williams, Anyae Ballard and Keshaun Ballard; eleven great-grandchildren; one sibling, Iva Brooken and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends. Roger was preceded in death by: his wife, Angeline Polk; nine siblings, Maurice Polk, Mabeline V. Polk, Hilary Polk, Winterfield Polk, Imogene Jackson, Calvin Polk, Naomi Banks, Doris Chandler, and Boyd Polk; three grandchildren, Layla Stanford, Clyde Johnson, Jr., and Monet Johnson and one great-grand child, Briasia Meekins.
