Roberta Lovella Best

Roberta Holloway Lavelle Best, also known as “Auntie Kid”, 101, of Dover, Delaware, was born on Wednesday, June 5, 1918, and on Friday, January 3, 2020, she was promoted to Glory. She has earned her wings and united with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born in McCormick, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Andrew Holloway and Susie Frazier Holloway. She is joining her siblings, Ruby Norman Stevens, Hezekiah Norman, Andrew Norman, Daisy Ruth Norman-Blanding, Mildred Norman-Dillard, Boston Frazier and Mable Norman Young Stinchcomb; grandsons, Matthew Harrell and Gregory Redman and her favorite brother-in-law, Jessie James Stinchcomb. Roberta was raised in South Carolina, and attended schools in the south. Roberta moved to Philadelphia, where she worked in the office of the Secretary of Defense for over 30 years. During her tenure as a federal employee she was involved in numerous organizations. Her last act of service in the federal arena was with The National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was honored for her commitment and dedication to the organization. Roberta was also a faithful member of Bethlehem Church of God Holiness in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for over 50 years. During her time at Bethlehem, she served in the hospitality and the culinary ministries. Once she moved to New York, with her loving sister and family, Roberta attended Bethlehem Church of God Holiness in the Bronx, New York. Roberta believed that one day she would wear a crown, and she lived her life believing that one day she would be sitting at His feet and her father would say, “Well done my good and faithful servant”. Once Roberta retired, she loved to travel, even if that meant getting on the bus and traveling just downtown. She didn’t believe in sitting at home. If the sun was out, Roberta believed she should be too. Roberta leaves to celebrate her life and legacy, daughter, Dolores Holloway of Dover, DE; sister, Maraquita Presley of SC; brother, Andrew Holloway of Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Norman of Greenville, SC; grandson, Stefoni Harrell and his wife, Joi; granddaughters, Valerie Harrell Wetzell and Mona Harrell-Johnson; grandson, Woodrow Harrell and his wife, Tonya; great-grands, Syria, Nikia, Kolester Croaker, Candyce Collier, Nika, Raquel Jennings, Sherrard King, Daygiaque and Jason Charles, Matthew, Jillian, Dolores, Mattilee, Melonie and Ella; great-great grands, Syrena and Talford Smith, Moses, Ava and Avery Charles, Cheyenne Croaker, Brandon, Andre, Faye-Leah, Quinnel and Quilise Jennings; and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
