Robert Marcellus Morris

ROBERT’S JOURNEY Robert Marcellus Morris was born on May 3, 1927 to the late Stanford Morris and Hortense Bivens. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 1, 2021 at the age of ninety-three (93). He was educated in the Wicomico County public school system at Wicomico Colored High School, where he still held many records for track and field. Robert also loved playing basketball. He came from a Military family, where his father served in WWI. He served in WWII and his son followed in his footsteps and served in Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan. Robert was the type of person who never met a stranger. He loved shooting pool and hosting card games in his younger days. He enjoyed talking to his grandchildren about his adventures overseas in the United States Army and throughout his life. He also loved watching college basketball and anyone that knew him, knew that his favorite team was the University of Maryland Terrapins. Robert also enjoyed trip to the casino, watching NBA, NFL and Track and Field. He was a servant of the Lord and a member of St. James AME Zion Church. Robert was one of the original founders of the VFW Post # 10159 in Salisbury, Maryland where it still functions today. He was employed with Central Electric for fifteen (15) years and also for Wicomico County Liquor Dispensary for seventeen (17) years. While working those jobs, he was also a self-employed painter. He painted many big projects and based them off of a person’s income if they could not afford it. When he retired from painting, he chauffeured for Ms. Beulah Twilley for ten years until he retired for good. Robert was loved by his longtime companion of thirty-eight (38) years, Zellin Dawson and three children, Robert (Diane) Morris, Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina, Cheryl (Wayne) Wharton of Salisbury, Maryland and Dean (Cynthia) Morris of Atlanta, Georgia as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews and friends. Robert was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Brown, his daughter Gwendolyn Hammond, wife, Betty Morris, two sisters and two brothers, Nellie and Bernard Purnell and Lucille and Welthus Moore and one brother and sister-in-law, Nathaniel and Esther Jones.
