Robert L. Jones Sr.

Robert L Jones Sr. departed this life on April 16th 2014 at BayHealth Memorial Hospital in Dover, DE. Robert was born in Eufaula, Alabama on January 17th 1941 to the (late) Rosie Lee Louder and David Jones, Sr. He was united in marriage to Mildred Dorothy Frazier on August 30th, 1963 in Denton, MD and remained inseparable from that day forward. Robert was baptized on July 21st, 1974 by the late Elder Mary H. Quionones. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Church of the Living God in Dover, DE, where he served under the leadership of the late Overseer Pastor Rosie Lee Johnson and current Pastor Martha T. Smith in the capacity of Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. He loved serving the Lord and enjoyed listening to his favorite Gospel Quartet groups; Canton Spirituals and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. Robert was educated in the Alabama school system before heading north to explore opportunities in the construction trade. He was a self-taught man that embraced the construction industry as a means to provide a living for his family. “Bob” as he was affectionately called by many of his peers, pursued his love for construction in various endeavors. He partnered with Fred Voshell to start his first construction company. After moving on from that venture he began his career with the George and Lynch construction company where he spent over 20 years as one of their top excavation operators. Bob was known for his skilled precision in handling the company’s largest backhoe equipment. His team was responsible for several major construction projects with the company. Bob and his team were one of the most sought after Pipe installation crews in the organization. He prided himself on his work and would always be willing to share a story or two about his accomplishments. Prior to retiring from George and Lynch, he started his final venture in the construction business “Jones Trucking”. He wanted everyone to know that he was still on the job. He successfully ran his trucking business for over 12 years until he decided to dissolve the business and spend more time with his family and friends. Robert loved life and cherished the time he spent with his wife. The loving couple spent many hours together riding around in their motor home visiting various camping and fishing sites. Upon entering the doorsteps of retirement, Granddad and Grandmom were asked to bring 7 of their 12 grandchildren into their home and began the noble task of continuing to raise and care for them. Their supreme sacrifice and old school teachings and discipline will never be overlooked or forgotten. The love he shared with them will forever be etched in their hearts.
