Robert William Jones

Obituary Robert W. Jones, affectionately known as Buddy to many, was born on July 6, 1943 in Marion, Maryland, the third child of the late James M, and Gertrude M. Jones. He was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Genesis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Salisbury, Maryland. He was educated in the Somerset County Public School System and was employed by the Somerset County Board of Education as a custodian, and as a Landscaper until he retired in 2008. Buddy met his late wife, Dot, while she was working at Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne, Md. They married in 1997 and spent nearly 20 years together. Dot passed away June 10, 2016. Buddy was known as a hardworking, fun loving individual; just a wonderful, giving soul who loved people. He would do anything for anybody and loved doing it. He played taxi for anyone who needed a ride. His greatest joy was watching his grandson, Shakur, play basketball where he was a star basketball player at Washington High School. He would share the newspaper clippings with the family, he was so proud. When Christmas time came around, he wanted every grandchild to get something and he made sure that happened. Our thanks go out to Ms. Gloria for facilitating some of the gift transfers. Buddy had a sharp and creative mind. He was a great story teller. Buddy loved working outside and building things. He could carve things out of wood and display them in his home or share with his family. Because of his candid ability to remember names, times, places and events that took place many years ago, his stories were very compelling and everyone listened, especially his grandchildren. Nephews Isaiah and Mason loved visiting Uncle Buddy, especially when they would come home with their dads and shoot targets with different guns that Buddy had. They were highly impressed that Uncle Buddy had all of the guns they wanted to shoot. He provided a safe place for them, targets, bottles and all the guns that were permitted by law. The family reunion every year was a very special occasion for Buddy. He got to meet all of the family members and that was when he was at his best. Making sure everyone had enough to eat and that they were happy. He is survived by his two stepsons, Maurice Washington (Shauntay) and Carl Harris (Tory); Sister, Frances A. Taylor (Arthur); Brothers, (COL. James M. Jones Jr. (Jean), Danny M. Jones (Sheila), (MSG) Thomas L. Jones (Rebecca), (SFC) McKinley D. Jones (Donna ), (SSG) Bernard P. Jones (Voncella), Richard A. Jones (Doretta); and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gertrude Jones; his sister, Barbara; and his brother, Samuel.
