Richard Timothy Northam

Richard’s Journey... Richard Timothy Northam (Rick) was born to the late Myrtle E. Northam and James Thomas on March 28, 1967 in Withams, VA. He entered eternal rest on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 in Ocean City, MD. “Rick” graduated from Arcadia High School in Oak Hall, VA in 1985. He was well known for being very intelligent, a hilarious joker and a star athlete in high school. He loved all sports, but football was always his favorite and he played football each of his high school years. Rick had a very generous heart and was one of the most giving people that you would ever meet. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a true servant to all. Fulfilling his servant nature and his love to travel, Rick served in the United States Army for eleven years as a cook following high school. He served his country proudly and loved every minute of it! He traveled to several countries, but he loved Germany the most. He also served in several countries during his Gulf War tours including Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. He was always intrigued by and enjoyed how other cultures lived. In true servant fashion, following his military years, Rick became a Dietary Correctional Officer at Eastern Correctional Institute (ECI) in Westover, MD. He served for several years until his health began to fail at which time he relocated to California. Rick had a constant love affair with living in California. He absolutely loved living in CALI as he called it. He adored the warm, dry weather. Anytime he visited the Eastern Shore, he was always ready to get back to CALI. Rick loved his family and was always giving and doing for every member of his family. With no biological children of his own, Rick adored all his nieces and nephews. He often called nephews, TyRon and Ken “his boys.” He spoiled all his family members until the day God called him home. He never met a stranger and always gave to anyone in need. This was how he loved! He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle E. Northam, favorite uncle, Pastor Johnnie Crippen and his sister, Rosemary Northam. Rick leaves to cherish precious, unforgettable memories: two brothers, John (Nanette) Northam, Sr. of Goldsboro, NC and Elvis Northam of Atlantic, VA; three sisters, Ella (Kenny) Smith and Yvette Northam, both of Pocomoke City, MD; and Charlene (Lawrence) Bunting of Salisbury, MD; three nieces, Sherone (Billy) Johnson, Natasha (Jeff) Fields and Kiana Smith; seven nephews, John (Amy), Kenneth, TyRon, Nick (Ashley), Kendall, Devin and Austin; eleven great nieces and nephews, JaShawn, Tyana, TJ, Komari, Trevor, Kameron, Zari, Blake, Isabella, Kyla and Kynadi; a friend since childhood, Brian Richo, along with a host of cousins and several lifelong friends.
