Rebecca Ann Johnson

Rebecca Ann Brown Johnson, affectionately known as “Becky”, was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on Thursday, March 7, 1935, and departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior, in the afternoon of Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at the age of 84. Becky was an only child, born to the late James Brown of Georgetown, Maryland, and Reba Hopkins of Rock Hall, Maryland. She was recognized and loved as a member of the Lonnie and Minnie Hopkins family of Rock Hall and the Earl and Bertie Nicholson family of Chestertown, who were named as her godparents. Becky attended school in Worton Point Maryland and Garnett High School in Chestertown, Maryland. She was employed as a Nurses Aid at two locations; Resorts at Chester River Manor (formerly Magnolia Hall) and University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown (formerly Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital). She also worked at Campbell’s Soup Co., was an Assistant Care Attendant and a served as a school bus driver for Kent County. She was known for her untiring attribute of willingly reaching out to help others any way she could. Becky was married on December 25, 1953, to the late Rev. William H. Johnson, Sr., for 61 years. Their union was blessed with ten children. Becky was a wonderful wife and mother who had unconditional love for her husband and children. Her husband served in the United States Air Force. He later became a pastor for many different churches in various states. Becky would pack up her babies and travel to and fro; from country to city and state, over and over again, to keep the family together; once driving from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Chestertown, Maryland. Becky attended Sunday School and church at Aaron Chapel in Sharp town (Rock Hall) at an early age. As she matured to become an adult, she came to know, accept and serve the Lord, Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She served faithfully as a member of the Missionaries, Pastor’s Aide and as a former Steward at Bethel AME Church in Chestertown, Maryland. She was also a member of Sarah E. Travers Chapter #5 Order of Eastern Star Prince Hall affiliation Maryland Jurisdiction. Becky had a passion for knickknacks, gold jewelry and hats of all sizes and color. Becky’s door was always open to welcome in family and friends for a visit. She wanted her house and yard decorated for each holiday and she “Got what she wanted”. When one would ask, “How are you feeling?”, she would answer, “Oh, just fine.” Her favorite saying was, “What Not and Everything.” Her favorite TV shows were The Have and have Not’s, dog training and church programs. Family members preceding Becky in transitioning were her father, James Brown; mother, Reba Hopkins; husband, William H. Johnson Sr.; son, Anthony “Tony” Rochester; and daughters, Joann, Wanda and Sylvia Johnson. Becky leaves to cherish her memory, four sons, Arthur “Frankie” Brown (Ann), William Jr. “Pappy” (Darlene), Ronald “Benny” (Deborah), Arnold “Bones” (Denise), two daughters; Janet “JJ” and Alberta “Poochie” Johnson; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one grandson-in-law, Kevin Langley; one sister-in-law, Marietta “Sis” Hynson; one brother in-law, Romie Johnson, Sr.; her Bethel AME and Aaron Chapel Church families; and a host of other family members and friends.
