Phyllis Eugenia Jolley Bounds (Warrington)

Obituary Phyllis Warrington Bounds was born on December 13, 1942 on Virginia’s Eastern Shore to the late Reverend Levi and Rosetta Warrington. She was the oldest of seven (7) children from their bond. She transitioned from this life at the age of seventy-seven (77) on November 24, 2020 with her daughter Claudia Thomas and her friend, Knud Jensen at her bedside. Phyllis was raised by her grandparents, Fletcher and Adell Pitts-Lankford in Dorchester County, Maryland. Phyllis attended and graduated from Mace’s Lane High School in 1961. While in school, she excelled in the concert band as well as the marching band. She played the clarinet with passion. Phyllis also received very good grades academically. She received many rewards and recognitions. Phyllis received a scholarship in Home Economics, which made it possible for her to attend the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland after graduating from high school. Phyllis worked at a variety of jobs during her life. She worked at the Box Plant in Mardela Springs, MD, The Sewing Factory in Salisbury MD, in fashion retail at Benjamin’s Department Store in Salisbury, MD, Airpax Corporation, as a substitute teacher in Dorchester County, and as a Nursing Assistant and Care Provider. Her last job, in which she took much pride, was as a Security Officer for John Hopkins Broadway Security, where she worked at the Corvis Corporation in Columbia, Maryland. Phyllis was a vivacious person and always on the go. She was very much a people person and loved talking to people – anyone. Phyllis had many friends and made them easily. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had their backs. Phyllis dedicated a great amount of time volunteering for the Mardela High School marching band when her children Anthony, Claudia and Robert were in parades all throughout the Delmarva area. She would be right there marching with the band. She loved decorating, fashion, dancing, music and cooking. In her younger days, she became quite popular for her delicious bean pies. At her apartment complex in Jessup, MD, Phyllis gained many friends. She was always giving others a helping hand when she could and was known as the “newspaper lady.” She took on the job of picking up the newspapers from outside and delivering them to everyone’s door. She did this cheerfully early in the morning each and every day until she couldn’t any longer. Phyllis was a woman of strong faith and believed in God and the power of prayer. She was always praying for others. Phyllis was preceded in death by: her husband, Richard Bounds; her father, Levi Warrington; her mother, Rosetta Warrington; her grandmother, Adell Pitts-Lankford; her grandfather, Fletcher Lankford; her grandfather, Charles Lee Tull, Sr.; her grandson, Christopher Thomas and her nieces, Shanelle Warrington and Tiffany Warrington. Phyllis leaves to cherish her memory: her three children, Anthony Warrington-Lankford of Columbia, MD, Claudia (David) Thomas of Taneytown, MD and Robert Jolley, Jr., of Baltimore, MD; six grandchildren, Brionna Warrington, Anthony Warrington, Jr., Anisha (Richard) Elliott, David Thomas, Jr., Xavier Thomas and Johnathan Thomas; three step grandsons, Robert Thomas, Eric Quinones and Justin Quinones; nine (9) sisters and brothers, Delores (Carl) Barham of Columbia, MD, Eunice (Keith) Kelly of Parksley, VA, Valerie (Richard) White of Richmond, VA, Barbara Warrington of Greensboro, NC, Loretta Joynes of Georgetown, DE, Russell Justice of Stockton, MD, Homer (Janice) Justice of East Windsor, NJ, John (Lucille) Warrington of Hurlock, MD and George (Anna) Warrington of New Church, VA; four (4) great grandchildren, Reese Warrington, Oscar Warrington, Kendrick Wilson and Christian Elliott; a very dear friend, Knud Jensen and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
