Peggie Ann Mayfield

Peggie Ann Mayfield was known by many for her loving kindness. She had a big heart which was shared with many and many loved her dearly. When one met Peggie, they were greeted with a special warm smile. Peggie’s last days were spent caring for her sister, Margaret Bratten. Born in Snow Hill, Maryland on August 29, 1948, Peggie was the daughter of the late Burley Bratten, Sr. and Margie Douglas Bratten. Peggie departed this life, transitioning to her heavenly home, on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Tidal Health (PRMC) in Salisbury, Maryland. She received her education in the Worcester County school system, graduating with the Class of 1966 from Old Worcester High School. Peggie received the Lord as her Savior at a young age. She attend Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Snow Hill, Maryland, and was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend John W. Woods. There, Peggie was a faithful member of the Usher Board. On November 4, 1968, Peggie married Wilmer Mayfield of Centreville, Illinois. Out of that union, there were three sons, one deceased. Peggie was re-baptized at the Church of Christ in Centreville, Illinois under the leadership of Pastor Ralph P. Smith where she continue to usher in the spirit. Her favorite songs of praise were “Order My Steps”, “Sending Up My Timber” and “All My Help.” Peggie loved cooking and pound cakes were one of her specialties. She also enjoyed watching soap operas, even though Columbo was her favorite detective show and she also loved westerns. Being the life of the party and card coordinator, she loved playing the games. “Pass The Trash, Bid Whist and Phase Ten” were her three favorites. Peggie loved to win and after the game she would say, we won and I beat Vest, which made her happy with laughter. Her favorite saying when asked how she was doing was, “A hitting and a missing.” Left behind to cherish treasured memories are: her husband, Wilmer Mayfield of Centreville, Illinois; two sons, Kevin (Regina) Mayfield of Illinois and Keith Mayfield of Georgia; two grandchildren, Kevin L. Mayfield, Jr. and Cameron Evans, two sisters, Dorothy Wise and Bessie “Peannie” (Ernest) Jenkins, both of Snow Hill, MD; two brothers, Burley (Margie) Bratten, Jr. of Salisbury, MD and Sylvester (Denise) Bratten of Ocean City, MD; one brother-in-law, Robert (Dorothea) Mayfield of North Carolina; four sisters-in-law, Daisy (Billy) Hurte and Mary Ann (Wilbert) Davis, both of Oklahoma, Stella (Kempliton) Giles of California and Alvenia Johnson of Virginia; a longtime friend, Sandra Carmichael and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins of the Bratten and Douglas families. Peggie was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth L. Mayfield, one sister, Margaret Bratten, one brother, Leslie Douglas and one nephew, Darrin Bratten. Though we have to say good-bye, we’re comforted to know That love has never left us and will never let us go.
