Pearls have been treasured around the world for thousands of years and have generally been the most highly prized and valued type of the natural gemstone. The Pearl as a Christian Symbol represents the word of God and the kingdom of heaven. The dictionary defines “pearl” as a lustrous and finely-colored gemstone. Something precious… the finest example of rare and simplistic beauty, value, refinement, genuineness and purity. Born June 24, 1926 in Horntown, Virginia to Mannon & Ella Rosalee Townsend who knew exactly the gift they and the world were receiving in their daughter Pearl Elizabeth. She married Chester Pitts who preceded her in death. During the 88 years of her life, she truly became the finest example of a woman of God, a family matriarch, and indeed a Pearl of Wisdom. Something Precious: Pearl was a Daddy’s little girl from the very beginning and had a special connection with him. In fact, she made sure she kept her promise to her daddy that she would never cut her long locks of beautiful black hair. “PRAISE THE LORD” is the greeting you heard (instead of “Hello”) each and every time you called Pearl at home…She became a True Pearl of Wisdom when she gave her life to Jesus Christ at an early age and never wavered from her special connection with her Creator. She was a dedicated member of Kingdom Worship Ministries of Felton, DE (formerly known as Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Melissa Dukes). Pearl could literally talk all day about the goodness of Jesus! She would say “no one knows what HE has done for me”. The Finest Example of Godliness: God knew He could trust His daughter to be a godly example of motherhood, subsequently, He blessed her with 17 children to love and train-up. Mom, Mama, Mom-mom Pearl or simply Mom-mom was indeed the finest example of a family matriarch…a strong, independent woman who raised her “precious pearls” on her own. Actually, she did it with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ…as HE “made a way out of no way for me and all 17 of my children, and kept us all in HIS care.” She shared a unique and special bond with each child. True wisdom and love she possessed as she lovingly sacrificed for her children, grandchildren and her countless great-grandchildren, according to their needs. She requested nothing more from them than their best attempts at being who she raised them to be and who God called them to be… people of patience and love for each other, respecting themselves while showing mercy to those who stumbled along their journey. The humility of Pearl’s gentle spirit, the kindness which radiated through her eyes and the ever-so-gentle smile of love are the truest examples of Godlike qualities that her Heavenly Father honors. These are the attributes that each of her off-spring will forever carry in their hearts as a legacy of her love. Pearl was a passionate homemaker. Everyone enjoyed her specially made yeast rolls, stuffing and an array of other homemade items. Naturally, the annual Pitts Family Reunion began right in Mom-mom Pearl’s backyard in Lincoln, DE. She taught all of her “precious pearls” how to cook…even her sons. In addition to cooking, Pearl loved singing, praising the Lord Jesus Christ, watching TBN and listening to her gospel tapes. Pearl opened her home as a safe haven for many. She helped anyone and prayed for everyone. She loved the “unlovable”, and always did her best to show God’s love by ministering the Gospel in word and deed. She called everyone “Baby” and she was known to love and treat her sons and daughters–in–law as her own. She frequently quoted Psalm 113, saying, “My Father sits up high and looks down low”. Pearl was spirited and joyful. She was known to laugh so hard her whole body would literally shake. Though her health became challenged, Pearl’s faith in God never faltered...she continued to lean on Jesus and stand on His word. During her last days on this side of heaven, Pearl consoled her hurting family by saying... “Don’t Cry for Me Baby, Trust in God.” Pearl Elizabeth Pitts’ life was the epitome of a lustrous and finely-colored gemstone. Something precious… the finest example of Godliness to behold. of a pearl, Pearl quietly and peacefully departed this life Sunday, October 19 of natural causes at her home in Milford, DE. God welcomed her home with the promised words she had longed to hear…”Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant”. She was treasured by those who passed before her: Ella Rosalee and Mannon Townsend (parents), Chester Pitts (husband), Margaret Pitts (daughter), Toni A. Young (grand-daughter), Brittany Thompson (grand-daughter), John Lee Townsend (brother), Hattie Lewis (sister) and Walter Townsend (brother). Pearl will forever be cherished by her remaining siblings: eight brothers and sisters: James Townsend (Catherine); Roxie Morris (Calvin); Annie Mae Jenkins; Lillie Davis (Peter); Oscar Townsend (Ida); Althea “Willie” Fosque (Gardiner); Clarence Townsend (Annette) and Hazel Marshall (Earl). Pearl’s remaining 16 children will also hold true to their love and honor of her memory: Rosie Lee Townsend, Norman Pitts, Lawrence Pitts, Howard Pitts, Helena Evans (Mckinsey); Dianne Reese (Steve); Brooks Pitts (Barbara); Chester Pitts (Christine); Cassandra Burton (Russell); Joshua Pitts; Sallie Pitts; Joanne Pitts; Lemmon Pitts; Linwood Pitts (Cristina); Michael Pitts (Vertina); Pearl Roberts (David); and a stepdaughter, Peggy Colone. Pearl also leaves 80 grandchildren, 150 great grandchildren, numerous great-great grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
