Pauline Williams Emory (Vickers)

Pauline W. Emory, was the youngest of seven children. She was born to the late Willis E. Vickers, Sr. and Ella Johnson Vickers, of Frankford, Delaware, on Thursday, March 2, 1939. At an early age, Pauline's family moved to Ellendale, Delaware. She attended Ellendale Elementary School, in Ellendale, Delaware and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School, in Georgetown, Delaware. Her continued education included: Marywood College, Delaware Technical and Community College, Delaware State College, now known as Delaware State University and the University of Delaware. In 1974, her years of acquiring knowledge afforded her a job with The Agriculture Department for the State of Delaware. Her many jobs there included Secretary to the Departments of: Forestry and Food Product Inspection. Pauline was always an active member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, in Ellendale, Delaware. She was a member of the Faith Singers Choir, a church Steward, president of the Lay Organization, New Zion Coach Bus Driver and Ellendale Community Activist. Through her expertise in grant writing, the community of Ellendale was awarded $250,000 towards building a community center, which was named New Hope Recreation and Development Center. Its purpose was to encourage dropouts to return to school, teach computer skills, provide a safe environment for latchkey children and provide a center for recreation. During the summer, there were programs for Little League Baseball and study of nature through field trips. As a community leader, Pauline was instrumental in initiating and following through with the town of Ellendale, assuring they had a sewer system provider, as well as trash and recycling services. Pauline’s dedication to serve never wavered. She was active in the church and community until she passed on Monday, April 20, 2020. In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her brothers, Willis E. Vickers, Jr., James E. Vickers, Harry R. Vickers; sister, Ella Mae Daniel and her son, Ronald Williams. Pauline will be greatly missed by her husband of 42 years, Isaac W. Emory; sons, Anthony Williams and Wade Jones (Viola); daughters, Claudette Emory Franklin (Eric) and Odessa Emory; siblings, Mildred Vickers and Ernest Vickers (Kathryn); grandchildren, Anthony and Beverly Fountain, Anthony Williams, Marcus Jones, Sr. (Viola) Marcus Emory, Imani Hackett, Justus Emory, Amory Emory, Angel Jones and Avistra Pace (Philip); nieces, Jacqueline Morrison, Keisha Wilson, Keisha Emory Duncan (Robert), Dava Robinson Lewis, Patrece McWilliams, Trinity Williamson, Tammy Wilson, and Betty Sykes; nephews, Donald Morris and William Mason Dixon (Sharon), Robert Daniels, Louis Daniels, John W. Emory, Charles Emory, Jr. (Sally) and Darryl Emory (Tonya); beloved goddaughter, Tasha Stevens; sisters-in-law, Helen E. Dixon and Elizabeth Robinson; her church family and the citizens of Ellendale.
