Ovon R. Jernigan

Ovon Rhonda (Giddins) Jernigan departed this world on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. She was 47 years old. Ovon was born on Monday, February 17, 1969 at Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, Delaware to Lena V. Giddins and the late Otas Cephas, Sr. Her early childhood education began at East Millsboro Elementary School and then completed at Sussex Central High School. She graduated in 1987 and furthered her education at Polytech in Woodside, Delaware as a Dental Assistant, then as a Certified Nursing Assistant. During Ovon’s younger years, she attended Dickerson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church and was a part of the Y.P.D. (Young People’s Department). She was also a member of the Usher Board and Director of the Youth Choir. In 1986, Ovon met Aubrey Jernigan of Frankford, Delaware. The two later married on August 15, 1988. Through their union, two children were born; one daughter, Aubraa D. Jernigan and one son, Aubrey D. Jernigan, II, both at Milford Memorial Hospital. After marriage, she and her family accepted Christ as their Personal Savior. They attended Elohim Nondenominational Church in Millsboro, Delaware, under the pastorship of Frances Irving-Wright. They later joined Union Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. Dr. Raymond Fisher in Lincoln, Delaware. Ovon worked for the Stockley Center in Georgetown, Delaware for many years before leaving and starting a new journey with the Chimes of Newark, Delaware. She worked as a job coach, Residential Manager and a PM-46 Investigator. Ovon leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Aubrey D. Jernigan of Seaford, Delaware; one daughter, Aubraa Jernigan of Seaford, Delaware; one son, Aubrey D. Jernigan, II of Seaford, Delaware; her mother, Lena V. Bowe (Rev. Theodis Bowe) of Millsboro, Delaware; two brothers, Ellery V. Giddins and Otas Cephas, Jr., both of Seaford, Delaware; two sisters, Otasia Cephas of Wilmington, Delaware and Otisia Howell of Williamsville, Delaware. She also leaves one Goddaughter, Mantara Sturgis of Millsboro, Delaware; her best friend, Terri Mumford of Seaford, Delaware, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
