Norman Dickerson Jr.

Norman Dickerson, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Norman was born August 3, 1930 in Greenwood, Delaware to the late Madeline and Norman Dickerson, Sr. He received his early childhood education in the Greenwood, Delaware public school system. Following his education, he joined the United States Army, serving in the Korean conflict and earned the Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, The National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Occupational Medal (Japan) and the United Nations Service Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1954. He then married Doris Johnson and from the union two loving children were born. Michael and Michele. He was a machine presser in several local dry cleaners and worked at ILC plant in Frederica, Delaware. In 1963, he was employed at the Dover Air Force Base as a Civil Service Employee until his retirement in 1988. After retiring, he enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles, and favorite football teams, Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles. He enjoyed staying abreast of the current news and politics of the day, so he could sit in Hardees and enjoy drinking coffee and discussing what was going on in the world with his retired buddies. Norman was a strong devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He enjoyed helping other people if needed and enjoyed mowing the lawn and field with the “Big Tractor”. He had a couple favorite sayings “Treat people the way you want to be treated” and “Keep the faith”. Although he did not attend church, Norman was a believer and had great faith. He enjoyed watching Jimmy Swaggart on any given day. He had a special bond with his only grandson, Andre. Norman enjoyed imparting his wisdom and sharing special bonds with each of his nieces and nephews. Norman’s memory will forever be cherished by so many loved ones including his wife Doris of 62 years, son Michael Norman (Debra), daughter Michele Marie (Rev. Jeff Downing) and grandson Andre Stackhouse. Two sisters Lillian Morris and Yvonne Perry (Isaac), sisters-in-law Betty Benson and Patsy Salter, and brother-in-law Leslie Benson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
