Myra Lynn Ringgold

MYRA’S JOURNEY Myra Lynn Ringgold was born on June 17, 1958 in Salisbury, Maryland, daughter of the late Phillip and Valerie A. Lightfoot. She departed her life on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Tidal Health Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland. She attended Wicomico High School, where she graduated in 1976. She also attended United Methodist School, for Lay Speaker and World of Theological School. Myra worked for many years a K-Mart and Food Lion. She retired from the Board of Education in Food Service, where she served at Bennett High School for many years. As a young woman Myra accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted member of Wesley Temple Church, where she attended faithfully. Myra served in many positions in the church. She was a Lay Speaker, Usher, Communion Steward, Youth Leader and Sunday School Teacher. Myra married the love of her life, Dewayne Ringgold, on August 23, 2003. They spent twelve (12) wonderful years together until his passing in 2015. She leaves behind precious memories with: her two children, Alicia Hitch and Melvin (Priscilla) Hitch; her bonus daughter, Dewanuna (Kevin) Armstrong; her guard dog, Lola; her seventeen (17) grandchildren, Jason, Briante, Damere, Destiny, Zhaki, Melvin III, Jakari, Harlem, Aries, Ka’Myra, Lyric, Lateef, Javier, Kaiya, Kenvin, Nasir and Jaire; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, April (Thomas) Burrells, Eugenia Shields and Valerie Lightfoot; two brothers, Keith (Lorraine) Lightfoot and Christopher (Bonita) Lightfoot; her mother-in-law, Mary Ringgold; two sisters-in-law, Robyn Blount and Monique (Keith) Moore; two brothers-in-law, Timothy Sykes and Dwayne Cornish; three godchildren, Jabri Melvin, Trinity Lightfoot and Sabre’ Kellas and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Myra loved her Sisters-4-Life, Deborah Farlow, April Jackson, Wanda Jones, Vivian Ballard and Andrea Miles-Stevens. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband and father of her children, Melvin Hitch, Sr.; her second husband, Dewayne Ringgold; two sisters, Barbara and Carol Lightfoot; two brothers, James and Douglas Lightfoot and one brother-in-law, Bryant Ringgold.
