Monica Chevelle' Jones

Monica Chevelle' Jones was born on August 18, 1965 in Salisbury, Maryland to Evelyn M. Jones, Mother, of Salisbury, MD and the Late Nathaniel C. Jones, Sr., Father. Monica was called home to be with The Lord on May 1, 2014 at 4:55 pm in Peninsula Regional Medical Center after a 14 year long battle with Breast Cancer. She passed in the comforting presence of her mother, sister, brother, aunt and uncle by her side. Monica was also known as "Sister Sledge," "MJ," or "Mont" and she was truly an "Angel on Earth" because she helped so many people. She dedicated her life to helping others and touched so many peoples' lives. Monica would always go out of her way to help others and she would give her last to help someone, even a stranger, no matter the cost, and whatever she could offer, whether it was her time, money, a ride or even her car, running errands for others, picking up food, groceries, pampers for her friends with children, she would do it, even giving her last dime or penny to help someone. She did not like to see people in need or lack. She always gave a helping hand even in her last few months of life and she always gave others hope and courage to live. She was truly God's missionary !!!! Monica attended Parkside High School and graduated in 1983. She then went on to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for one year and thereafter attended Woodbridge Business Institute where she graduated with a certificate and honors. Monica had several jobs during her lifetime. She worked at Perdue Administration Offices for 6 months, Campbell Soup, Inc. for 10 years, Maid Services part time in Ocean City for 2 years, Shoney's Restaurant as a manager for one year, Field's Containers for 5 years and Peninsula Regional Medical Center in the Food/Dietary Services Dept. where she worked for 15 years. Monica was a very hard and dedicated worker and she received numerous awards and plaques commemorating her outstanding work performance at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Monica was known as a fighter and she fought a good fight all the way to the end!!!! She was so brave and courageous throughout her life and illness. She was always so "full of life," joyful, positive, energetic, enthusiastic and had a great sense of humor. Monica loved laughing and she loved life. She loved laughing with her family and friends. Even during the last 2 months of her life, Monica was still able to laugh even though she was hooked up to continuous oxygen tubes 24 hours a day which was running through her nose. She had such a beautiful spirit, a beautiful smile and she was so beautiful both in the outward appearance as well as the inward. Even though Monica was sick, she actually did not even look sick. She looked very healthy in fact and that was God's glow inside of her reflecting to the outside. Monica exemplified so much bravery, courage, hope, and determination and she had a strong will to live. She was a "beam of light," an encourager, and despite what she was going through, she always had a big smile on her face!! People had no idea what she was going through. Regardless, she always had something good to say despite what she was going through!!! She touched so many people's lives and anyone who she came in touch with she left a positive impact on them. Monica was truly an Inspiration to all!!! She had a strong faith in God which kept her alive and a great determination to live and to love regardless of all the chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgeries, medication and continuous oxygen therapy. She was determined to endure despite all that!! Monica herself was a living testimony and the doctors called her a medical miracle!!! She had outlived the time the doctors gave her and the doctors could not even explain how Monica was still going but we all knew that it was God who had extended her life and gave her the extra years on this earth to spend with her family and friends. We believe the reason her years were extended was because she had a "Heart so Big" and all the good deeds she performed for others which exemplified God's true love. Monica was saved, tried to read her Bible as much as she could, attended church when she was physically able and had personal talks with God daily. She had so much courage and strength that she even began planning her funeral a year ago. From 2013 up until February of 2014, Monica began telling certain family members and friends where she wanted to have her funeral, the color of clothes she wanted to be buried in, the day of the week and the time she wanted it and certain things that she wanted mentioned in her obituary. She had mentioned these things to her mother, her sister, her cousin Cheryl and Bianca and her friends, Vicky and Lokie. In her spirit, we believe Monica knew the end was coming but it was very hurtful and painful for us to hear her speak these things. We told her to stop saying these things and we would often cry or become sad. Monica was a life-time member of the Elk's Home Lodge Success Temple I.B.P.O.E Post #145 and she volunteered there and at several other organizations ((i.e. VFW and American Legion) even during the last one year of her life. She wanted to give back to the community. Monica enjoyed dancing and she was a great dancer despite the fact that she had a whole plate of metal rods in her back from previous back surgery. She loved going out with her friends to the Fountains, the Elks home, the VFW and the American Legion. She also enjoyed listening to music, reading books, doing crossword puzzles, watching movies, and watching TV. Her favorite tv shows were Wendy Williams, Hawthorne, 106 & Park, Family Feud and The Young and the Restless. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and loved ones especially her mother, sister, brother, nieces and cousins. Monica enjoyed living and she enjoyed life to the fullest!! Monica was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel C. Jones, grandparents, Hortense Jones and Edwards (Dimples) Jones, grandfather, Jack Johnson, Aunts Mary Johnson and Nellie Purnell and Uncle Welthus ( Slick) Moore. Monica leaves to cherish her loving memories: Her dear mother, Evelyn Jones, a dear Stepmother, Esther A. Jones, a dear sister, Dr. Natalie C Jones (Dr. J) of Utica NY, a dear brother, Nathaniel C Jones (Nate), 4 half-sisters, Tonya Collick, Dede Mcglotten, Buffy Gordon and Tracy Hutt; one half-brother, Eric Sessoms; one brother-in-law, George Stancu of Hazleton, PA; 3 dear nieces, Alexis Jones, Samantha Stancu and Sofia Stancu; 2 nephews, Nathaniel Jones III and Brian Jones; her partner and significant other, Kenneth Wigfall; 5 special cousins, Bianca Giddens, Cheryl and Wayne Warton, Dean Morris and Daryl Johnson; special aunts, Lucille Moore, Barbara Johnson, Joyce Martin, Brenda Martin, a Special Uncle, Charles Johnson and a host of many other aunts, uncles, cousins whom she cherished. Her special friends included Victoria Anderson, Linda (Marilyn) Whittington, Lorraine Cornish, Pamela Nutter, Karmon Sterling, Andrea Watson and Eddie Hayward and many other friends who were dear to her. Monica will forever be loved, missed and remembered!!!! She will be celebrated for her amazing life she lived and the brave, courageous fight that she fought !!!! Monica was a loving, dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, granddaughter and true friend. Rest in Paradise, Monica, God's, Angel! You fought a Brave, long Fight and you fought it well !!! You shall now receive your eternal Reward in Heaven!!!! Monica's great life and legacy and her brave, long, courageous fight with Breast Cancer will forever be remembered, cherished and celebrated !!! We love you forever Monica and you will always be in our hearts !!!!
