Miriam Johnson

Miriam Johnson, 86, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at the Milford Center in Milford, Delaware. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on Sunday, October 28, 1928. Miriam was one of three children born to the late Charles Johnson and Ruth Viola Toomer Johnson. Miriam was educated in the public school system of Charleston County, South Carolina. She worked as a seamstress, retiring from the Brooklyn Terminal Market and a greeting card company in Brooklyn, New York. Miriam's most fond memory was to see her oldest daughter married. Her accomplishments in life were raising her three children and serving as President of the Young Adult Choir, and singing on the Adult Choir at St. James A.M.E. Church at 2010 5th Avenue in Harlem, New York. Miriam enjoyed reading and taking care of her dog, Princess; a name well-deserved. She will be remembered for her warm, generous nature, always helping others and helping to raise her five grandchildren. Miriam leaves to mourn her memory, two children: Frances (James S.) Fultz-Minor, Milford, Delaware and Michael (Shanna) Rankin, Sr., Clayton, Delaware; son-in law, Abraham Edwards, South Carolina; five grandchildren: Steven J. Fultz, New York; Terrence D. Fultz, Teaneck, New Jersey; Shakima Rankin, Harlem, New York; Kevin M. Edwards, Dagsboro, Delaware and Michael J. Rankin, Jr., Clayton, Delaware; one brother, Ralph Johnson, Harlem, New York, a niece Ralphetta Moses, Brooklyn, New York, nephew Curtis Johnson, Rhode Island and many beloved family and friends. Special recognition is also given to her adopted family with whom we give deepest heartfelt thanks: Mr. Mario Nelson, Mrs. Judy Nelson and their children, Keyshonna Nelson, Keyonna Nelson and Eric Mario Nelson; Mrs. Kathy Thompson and her children, Jeffrey Thompson and Kevin Thompson, all of Milford, Delaware, and Ms. Bonita Simmons (deceased) for all their love, support and help. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Johnson-Edwards, her brother, Charles Johnson, Jr., nephew Samuel Johnson and nieces Gwendolyn Crump and Cheryl Johnson.
