Minnie Maybin

Mrs. Minnie Lee Maybin, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Sugar”, was the youngest of eight children, born to the late George Allen and Ada Young, in Suwannee County, Live Oak, Florida, on April 17, 1932. She departed this life on May 7, 2020, in Dover, Delaware. At an early age, Minnie attended Greenville Elementary in Greenville, Florida, and later, at the age of 16, transferred to Dillard Junior/Senior High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where she graduated. At that time, she was in the care of and resided with her uncle and aunt, Roosevelt and Ethel Allen. Minnie lived there for a number of years in the late fifties and early sixties. Minnie decided to join her older sister, Lula who lived in Naranja, Florida, where she took up residence and remained throughout the early seventies. At this point in her life Minnie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. The three sisters worked in Key Biscayne, Miami Beach, Florida, performing domestic housekeeping work. After a short period of time there, Minnie applied for, and received the maid position at the first Elementary School, built in Naranja. Moving to Naranja and Homestead Air Force Base was a smart move for her since it resulted in holy matrimony to her husband of 50 years, Tommie Maybin. She and her husband traveled the world and resided in Greece, for several years, California and New York, before retiring to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. She later accepted employment at the Playtex Industries as well as Dover AFB Commissary. It was in Dover that she raised her granddaughter, Natasha, and great-granddaughter, Jamila. Minnie will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity to others and her remarkable and exquisite taste for interior design. There was always a demand for her baking talents, which included her signature pound cake and apple nut cake, but don’t forget “lucky if you have any left”, a dessert treat you would always come back for more. God blessed Minnie with a long life and the following family members preceded her in death, husband, Tommie Maybin; daughter, Estella; siblings, Lula Mae, Albert, Emanuel, Vincent, Christine, Rosa Lee and Johnny; nephews, Ben Riggins, Donnie Ray, Willie Lee, and Albert, Jr. Minnie leaves to cherish her precious memories, daughter, Maryann; adopted daughter, Natasha; three granddaughters, Kisha, Bianca and Ursula; one grandson, Antoine; two nieces, Essie Mae “Sister” and Amanda; eight nephews, Willie “Moss”, James “Son”, John “Darryl”, Dexter, Norman, Dwayne, David and Monaleta; five great grandchildren, Jamila, Juwan, Jasmine, Jay, Jemel, Adrian, Antoine, Dallas, Maison, Amir and Messiah; one great-great granddaughter C’Marie; special friends, Wilma Cochran, Lillian Dickens, Inez Daniels, Catherine Slade and Julius Minus; and a host of other relatives and friends.
