Mildred Esther Stanley-Murray

Mildred Esther Stanley Murray was called home to be with her God on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at her home in Petersburg, Maryland. She was one of fourteen children born to the late Minnie L. Lake and William Stanley. Mildred received her early education at the former Sinclair High School in Cambridge, Maryland. She was married to the late James Floyd Murray. They enjoyed a close family bond of over 60 years. Family life was very important to them both. They both enjoyed traveling and family gatherings. Mom enjoyed cooking, having dinners and was always heard humming. Mother was raised in a very strong Christian family home. She was a member of Hurlock United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord and her church. She held various positions throughout her Christian Journey. She was a very strong, devoted Lay Speaker and was very proud to have that position; often being referred to as “E.F. Hutton”, because when Mildred spoke, everyone listened. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, a member of the United Methodist Women organization, and member of Administrative Council. She worked at Acme Market in Hurlock, Maryland for several years, before having the opportunity of being a Teacher’s Aide at Hurlock Elementary School, which she loved. She always had a passion for children. One of her greatest accomplishments was raising her five daughters and contributing to the growth of her grandchildren and being blessed with great grandchildren. Precious and loving memories remain with: five daughters, Dorothy (Marzelle) Autrey of Hurlock, MD, Lauretta (Thurman) Thomas of Baltimore, MD, Mildred (Vincent) Thomas of Odenton, MD, Rosalind (Emerson) Jones of Hurlock, MD and Floydette (Kevin) Gibson of Los Angeles, CA. Since Mom and Dad never had sons, their sons-in-law were their world; as well as eight grandchildren, Vanessa (Rob) Stevens of Glen Burnie, MD, Toya (Stacy) Norton of Reno, NV, Marzelle (Onell) Autrey, Jr. of Cambridge, MD, LaTonya Gadson of Odenton, MD, Genille (Andre) McElvey of Cumming, GA, Tiffany Jones of Columbia, MD, Drew Gibson of Spartanburg, SC and Kyle Gibson of Los Angeles, CA; six great grandchildren, Brittiany Bolden of Baltimore, MD, Nikkie Stevens of Glen Burnie, MD, Domonique Autrey of Cambridge, MD, Olivia Gadson of Odenton, MD and Jaden and Justin McElvey of Cumming, GA She was very proud of their accomplishments. One brother, Vincent Stanley of Denton, MD; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Stanley of Hurlock, MD, Mrs. Betty Murray of Bridgeville, DE and Mrs. Edith Murray of Trappe, MD; one godson, Charles Gale of Trappe, MD; special grandchildren, LaTasha and Isaiah Neal of Easton, MD and several cousins, nieces, nephews and devoted friends . In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by nine brothers, John Francis, Luther, Charles, William, George, Louis, Allen, Russell and Hilton; three sisters, Ruth Grace and Emma; a grandson, Rodney Murray; a special family friend, Freddie Sampson and special son-in-law, Vincent Thomas.
