Mildred Olivia "Libby" Thomas (Murray)

Mildred Olivia Thomas departed this life on Oct 12, 2017, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born August 6, 1942 in Petersburg, Maryland. She was the third daughter of Floyd and Mildred Murray’s five daughters. She was 75 years of age at the time of her untimely passing. Mildred received her early education in the public schools of Hurlock, Maryland, and completed her studies in 1961 at Maces Lane High School. On October 6, 1962, she was joined in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart, Vincent Monroe Thomas, and from this union two daughters were born. Mildred was a dedicated military wife from April 1960 through June 1984. During this time, she worked for various military exchanges abroad and in the United States until she retired in October of 1997. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed gardening quite frequently. To see the flowers come up every year was always a joy. Her famous line was, “I don’t remember planting that there!” Mildred was also known for her delicious pound cake! Some would say it was the best pound cake in the world! She was a devoted grandmother to her two granddaughters. She enjoyed participating in yoga classes, and liked to join various fieldtrips given at the O’Malley Senior Center in Odenton, Maryland. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Vincent M. Thomas and parents Floyd and Mildred Murray. She leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved daughters, Vanessa Stevens (Robert) of Glen Burnie Maryland, Latonya Thomas-Gadson of Odenton, Maryland; two granddaughters Nikkie C. Stevens and Olivia M. Gadson; four sisters, Dorothy Mae Autrey (Marzelle, Sr.) of Hurlock, Maryland, Lauretta Thomas (Thurman) of Baltimore, Maryland, Rosalind Jones (Emerson) of Petersburg, Maryland and Floydette Gibson (Kevin) of Los Angeles, California; sister-in-law Vietta Allen, and Brother-in-Law Henry Thomas of Hurlock, Maryland, Sister-in-Law Ann Thomas, Federalsburg, Maryland, Godson Deshon Cornish of Hurlock, Maryland; a special cousin Lauretta Freeman of Worton, Maryland and a host of nieces, Nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
