Mary Lizzie Pugh

Obituary “If you see a sunset, it's me, smiling from behind it. If I go away far, and you see a star If you find it, I’m inside it” Mary Lizzie Pugh was born on January 4, 1956 to Paul and Elizabeth Pugh. She was the fifth child from this union. Mary departed this life on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at her home in Portsmouth, Virginia after a lengthy illness. Mary graduated from Washington High School in Princess Anne, Maryland in 1974. Furthering her education, she graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, also in Princess Anne, Maryland in 1979, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. Mary was employed by Dove Pointe as a house manager in Salisbury, Maryland for 10 years and she also worked at Western Tidewater CSB for 20 years as a Quality Assurance Technician in Portsmouth, Virginia. Additionally, she worked at Pine Residential Center in Norfolk, Virginia from 1999-2012 as the Lead Direct Support. Mary also enjoyed working with children who had special needs. She started her own business and became the CEO of Quality Care Community Service, Inc. for 19 years. Mary enjoyed her job and she loved helping people. To know Mary was to love Mary. She was just a kind person who would do anything for you. Mary also was a caregiver for mom. She would come home on weekends to give her sister Corine a break. Mary loved God, music, along with shopping and traveling. Mary accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of the late Bishop Isaac Jenkins, Sr. where she was a member of New Macedonia Baptist Church. She never switched her membership, but she attended church in Portsmouth, Virginia. Mary was a hard worker, and she was dedicated to any job/task that was given to her. Mary liked challenges and doing things that required her to think out of the box. Mary loved her family and friends. She will truly be missed. Mary leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Elizabeth Pugh; her siblings, Willie (Lula) Pugh, Paul, Jr. (Gloria) Pugh, Corine Pugh, Lenwood Pugh and Floyd Pugh; one grandchild, Alani Bowen; two step daughters, Nateisha Bowen and Tiffany Bowen and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved co-workers. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Pugh, Sr., nephew, Calvin Handy and her favorite preacher/pastor Bishop Isaac Jenkins, Sr. SUBMITTED WITH LOVE ~ THE FAMILY
