Mary F. Davis

Mary Frances Ames Davis, age 84, of Georgetown. DE, left to be with her Lord and Savior on April 3, 2015. Mary Frances experienced a traumatic set-back in her health in December 2014 and her health continued to deteriorate. After a courageous battle, she succumbed to the will of her Lord and went home to be at rest. Mary Frances was born on August 4,1930 in Painter, VA to loving parents Lizzie Ann Sample (deceased) and G. Thomas Ames (deceased). She spent her early years under the guidance of her maternal grandmother and in her later years the late Charles Brittingham, Sr. was instrumental in her upbringing and she recognized him as ‘step-father.’ She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was educated in the Accomack County school system in Virginia. During her working career she was employed at Draper King Cole and other production companies until her health failed and she became disabled. Through all of her struggles and health issues she never complained. She suffered valiantly in silence knowing God was still able to deliver. Mary Frances spent the last thirty years of her life as a member of Greater Faith Temple COGlC in Bridgeville, DE where she accepted the Lord as her Savior. She enjoyed the fellowship of the people and captured their hearts. She was known for her smiles, cheerful demeanor and her love for people. No one could hug you like Mary Frances. When she hugged you, her grip let you know you had truly been hugged. She enjoyed tending her flowers, attending family, friends and community gatherings for the good fellowship, and was always a lover of good food. She loved her family dearly as well as her many friends. It was always a joy to be in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured gospel music and in her last days music was her solace. Songs such as 'There's A Storm Out On The Ocean', 'Falling In Love With Jesus" and 'This Old Building Keeps On Leaning' were instrumental in calming her and giving her peace in the midst of her struggles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Davis, Sr.; son, Tony Lee Davis; one sister, Sarah Ames and one granddaughter, Denise Michele Jones. She leaves to cherish her memory and to carry on her legacy four daughters; Marvella Davis of Bridgeville, DE; Shelia Boone (Joseph) Greenville, NC; Louise Jones (Johnny) Bridgeville, DE and Mona Showell (Kover) Seaford, DE; two sons, George Davis (Angela) Wilmington, NC and Walter Davis, Jr. of Georgetown, DE; two grandsons; whom she raised, Terrance and Alfred Davis; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Pastor Helena Bailey; brother, Charles Brittingham, Jr.: two nephews, Curtis Owens, Burbank, CA, Kenneth Owens of Philadelphia, PA; a special godson, Truman Mason; goddaughter, Rebecca Jones; a loving and devoted aide whom she considered her daughter, Ella Farlow; and a host of other relatives, friends and acquaintances. Mary Frances was the last remaining Matriarch of the Sample Family. Her home-going leaves a mark in history that cannot be filled by any other; for there has not been, nor will there be any other like her! To God be the glory who loaned us this extraordinary woman.
