HER LIFE’S JOURNEY Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelation 2:10 EVANGELIST MARTHA MARIE COLLINS BIVENS was born February 12, 1934 to the late Mary Schoolfield and Henry Collins. She transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday morning, January 14, 2016 at McCready Hospital in Crisfield, Maryland and gained her heavenly reward. “Mot”, as she was lovingly known by family and friends, was eighty-one (81) years old at the time of her passing. A lifelong resident of Pocomoke City, Maryland, Martha received her GED and graduated in 1987 from United Faith Deliverance Bible School. She also attended Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, Maryland with her focus on computer classes. A woman of many talents, she retired from the town of Pocomoke City in 1997. “Mot” was a very active and faithful member of Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle in Pocomoke, where she was involved with many ministries including: being a former Usher and President of the Usher Board; Coordinator of the Parade of Colors service; Vacation Bible School (VBS) teacher; founder of the Helping Hand Outreach ministry; Combined Choir; Prison ministry; Bible Study teacher at the MAC Center; the Compassion team; Twelve Tribe Captain of the Tribe Judah; volunteer at Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) in Salisbury, Maryland and serving in the ministry as an Evangelist as well as giving her time, talents and efforts unselfishly with numerous other committees, organizations and activities. In her spare time, Martha loved to search the internet for poems as she loved reading and sharing them with others. She loved word search puzzles, but even more so, she loved Fill-In puzzles. On her iPad tablet, she loved playing Spider, Solitaire and Bowling. Her number one passion, though, was fishing. Just about everyone at MDT has a story about fishing with Martha. She even competed with some to see who could catch the biggest fish. Her most consistent partner was “Candy” who loved to fish almost as much as Martha. Martha loved to be on the go and travel to locations both near and far. Cozumel, Mexico, Jamaica, Key West/Miami, Florida, Freeport/Nassau, Bahamas, Mississippi, New Orleans, Louisiana and cruise destinations were just a few of the places she visited. Her last road trip was to the Mall of America in Minnesota with Wendell and Shirley White, who loved to load up the RV and travel, just enjoying the scenery, meeting new people and living life to the fullest. When you think of loving, caring, generous, helpful, strong and determined, you think of Martha. More than anything, she loved the Lord and served the Lord with her whole heart. When God put flowers on earth, he placed a beautiful rose in our midst and named her Martha. Precious memories will be cherished by: her daughter, Evette Bivens-Curtis and a loving, devoted son-in-law Walter Curtis; one son, Craig Smith; her daughter, Chekesha Grooms; grandsons, Austin Bivens, who was always by her side, and Cameron Smith; grandchildren Morgan, Szacai, Kingston and Noah; one sister, Wanda Melton and her husband Harlan; a devoted cousin, Louvinia (Mom Lou) Phillips, who was more like a sister to her; two foster children, Janeen (Sunshine) and Jadeen (Dinky) Wallop, who she was instrumental in raising and who always stayed in touch, well after she had raised them and they were grown; a host of other foster children as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and church family. In addition to being preceded in death by her parents, Mary Schoolfield and Henry Collins, Martha was also preceded in death by: her husband, Alfred “Frog” Bivens and siblings—Gertrude Nelson, Irving Teagle, Florence Reeves, Emma Burton, her twin Elizabeth Robinson, Fred Purnell, Dorothy Spence and Marie Kimball.
