Mario E. Nelson

Mario E. Nelson, son of the late Vincent Nelson and Gladys V. Belgrave Nelson, was born on September 11, 1957. He departed this life on April 19, 2016. Mario graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Springfield College and Master of Science degree from Wilmington University with honors. Mario joined the United States Air Force. He married Judy V. Webb on April 10, 1982. Mario retired honorably from the United States Air Force after 20 years of faithful service. Later, he was employed by the State of Delaware for over 15 years. Mario enjoyed mentoring and working with people of all ages. He was fascinated by people’s creativity and thought process. He was an avid reader and placed a lot of importance in education. But most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family, whom meant the world to him. He always thanked the Lord for his family. He protected, guided and served us. Mario Nelson was a quiet gentleman but a giant in heart, mind, and spirit. He willingly gave support, encouragement and made commitments to assist others. Mario truly endorsed, “my word is my bond.” If he stated he would do something it was good as done. Mario loved the Lord and allowed Him to guide his steps. He was also a role model and an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Mario held the position of Director of Education and Director of Membership, Zeta Rho Lambda Chapter-Dover, DE. He loved the brotherhood and the mission. Mario leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 34 years, Judy V. Nelson; his daughters, Keyonna and Keshonna Nelson both of Milford, DE; his son, Mario Eric and daughter-in-law, Teena Nelson; one granddaughter, Mariah B. Nelson of Newark, DE; two sisters, Alicia Nelson and Vilma Gorin both of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Michael (Tamara) Nelson of Brooklyn, NY; close cousins, Ray (Deneen) King, Sr., of Brooklyn, NY and Dwayne (Zena) King; one brother-in-law, Michael Webb of Henderson, NC; one sister-in-law, Kathy Thompson of Milford, DE; five nieces, Karen Frazer, Tanya Nelson, Chontel Simmons, Tiffany Webb and Nicole Webb; three nephews, Tyrone Gorin, Jeffrey Thompson and Kevin Thompson; great-nieces, Shamira Frazer, Tamia Gorin and Raven King; great-nephews, Ray King, Jr., Terrence Gorin, Darrell Clarke and Azariah Chestnut; and a host of family and friends.
