Marilyn E. Tyner

Marilyn Estelle Tyner, daughter of the late Robert Randolph and Lorena Greenhowe, was born on October 28, 1943. She departed this life on March 5, 2014 at the age of 70. During her 25+ years as a welfare social worker for the Commonwealth State of Pennsylvania, Marilyn was inspired to start writing. That inspiration, talent and passion led to writing romance novels, seven of which were published by Pinnacle Romance, BET Books and most recently, a reprint of her books through iUniverse, Inc. She loved to help beginning writers and she taught several free writer’s workshops at the Smyrna Public Library in Smyrna, DE. Marilyn was a “Past Worthy Matron” in the Eastern Stars, King Solomon #60 OES and a “Past Royal Commandress” in the Order of Sirenes, PHA #25 in Philadelphia, PA. She was a current member of the St. Luke Women’s Forum at the St. Luke Baptist Church in Washington, DC. At Centennial United Methodist Church., Marilyn was a Lay Servant, Chair of Prayer Ministry, Bereavement, and Global Missions. As a vital member of the Prayer Chain and Alter Guild, she sent cards of encouragement to members and non-members. She also participated in the Nursing Home Ministry at Pinnacle and was a faithful member of Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church Women’s Forum in Clayton, DE. Marilyn supported various charitable organization, one of her favorites was World Vision. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; sister, Vivian Tolliver; brother, Daniel Greenhowe; granddaughter, Jade Tyner and nephew, Randy Wootson. Marilyn leaves to cherish her memories her children: Cassandra Tyner of San Diego, CA and Robert Tyner of Smyrna, DE; her grandchildren, Jasmine, Robert and Ethan; her sisters, Dolores Jones, Alice Wootson and Roberta Greenhowe; her brothers, Robert, Bruce and Charles Greenhowe; and a host of nephews and cousins. In addition to her best friend of over 60 years, Rosa Loper, Marilyn leaves behind her many cherished friends (too numerous to mention, but certainly not forgotten) she has made over the years. Friends from Rankin, PA; Washington, DC; Yardley, PA; Smyrna, DE and across the country. Marilyn will always be remembered for her laughter, her humor and her desire to help and encourage others. Most of all, she will be remembered for her love, faith and trust in God, who she is with now and experiencing that ‘peace that surpasses all understanding’ and ‘joy, unspeakable joy!’ To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Marilyn E.
