Margaret Ann Manuel

Margaret Ann Manuel departed this life on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland. Known as “Mutt” by her family and friends, she was born on March 23, 1958, in the city of Salisbury, Maryland, to Lottie Ann Mason Manuel and the late Clifford Luther Manuel, Jr. The oldest of six children, Margaret was known as the “bossy” and “stubborn” child. She was the true leader of the pack and never a follower. After receiving her public education from the Indian River School District in Sussex County, Delaware, she graduated in 1976 from Indian River High School in Dagsboro, Delaware. Margaret became a teenage mother of two children before graduating high school, but she did not allow this to hinder her goals. She finished her senior year as scheduled and this was her first leap to many accomplishments. In 1976, Margaret moved to Salisbury, Maryland with her children. She was employed by English's Chicken and Perdue in Salisbury, Maryland, before pursuing her dream, in the medical field. Margaret enrolled in the Medical Assistant program at Wor-Wic Community College, in Salisbury Maryland. This success helped to open doors for providing for her children. Margaret joined the National Guard Army Reserve and served from 1979 to 1985. She served with the Medical Specialist Unit in Salisbury, Maryland and she re-enlisted from 1985 to 1992 with the National Guard Army Reserve and served with the Military Police Unit. She received training at “Academy Healthcare Professionals”, in Houston, Texas. Margaret also attended the “3 rd Battalion 166 th (NCOA) Non-Commission Officer Academy in Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. Margaret’s 13 year military career ended with her rank of E5 SGT. These leadership skills only encouraged her to follow and fulfill her career in the medical field as a Phlebotomist. Margaret was also employed at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. There she held various positions as a Nursing Assistant, Lab Courier and X- Ray and Lab Technician. Margaret’s last employer was Quest Diagnostics. Her job title was Phlebotomist II and she worked at their Delaware and Maryland office locations. Margaret’s next major leap of faith was when she accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of New Macedonia Baptist Church in Pocomoke City, Maryland. She enjoyed making a joyful noise unto the Lord and hearing songs of praise and worship. In Christ, Margaret found strength, joy, happiness and peace that filled the void within her life. She had an appreciation of God's daily renewed mercies. Margaret was a private person who and moved in silence with her affairs. She never wished to overburden others. She shared with, cared for, and loved those who were dear to her, especially family. Margaret gave love in many forms, even the “tough love” when suitable. She showed love through her thoughts and actions, not just in words. Margaret was “Unselfish.” This made her unique. “Mutt” will be missed by the sound of her voice, her distinctive amusing laughter and her strong controversial personality, demonstrated by her three (3) famous movements--“eyes rolling”, “tongue clicking” and “grunts”. This meant to her Baloney. She will be missed by many, but not forgotten by few. Cherishing her memory and remembering her life and legacy are: her mother, Lottie M. Manuel of Salisbury, Maryland; her daughter, Tanya D. Manuel of Baltimore, Maryland and her son, Andrae L. Manuel of Georgetown, Delaware; two granddaughters, TyShay Harding of Salisbury, Maryland and Antishea Jones of Laurel, Delaware; two great- grandchildren, Trevin Hardy and DeNae Schoolfield, both of Salisbury, Maryland; two brothers, Tony Manuel, Sr. of Salisbury, Maryland and Troy Manuel of Savannah, Georgia; three special nephews, Anthony Manuel, Tony Manuel, Jr. and LaMar Mosley; three devoted friends, Deborah Trader Melvin, Ernestine Cook-Gunther and Terry Turner and a host of other nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by: her father, Clifford Luther Manuel, Jr.; brother, Clifford “Tyrone” Manuel; two sisters, Teresa Manuel and Tammy Manuel; her granddaughter, Tia-Niya L. Manuel; maternal grandparents, Willie and Ethel Mason and paternal grandparents, Clifford and Zola Manuel.
