Maggie Sarah Hamilton (Ames)

Mother Maggie Sarah Brown- Hamilton Mother Maggie Sarah Hamilton departed this life on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury, Maryland. Mother Maggie was born on May 10, 1927 in Crisfield, Maryland to the late Mamie and Luke Rolley. Mother Maggie Brown-Hamilton was preceded in death by three brothers: George Calvin, Clayton, and Jacob Rolley, and one sister, Winney Rolley. As the African Proverb goes “It Takes a Village”, she was affectionally reared by her namesakes, Mother Maggie Ames, and Sister Sarah Harris, during her childhood and teenage years. Mother Maggie Brown-Hamilton received her secondary education from Crisfield and Somerset school districts. Later, she resided and worked in Baltimore, Maryland. In the early 1950’s she returned to the Eastern Shore. From her marital union, God granted two children, James Brown Sr. (who preceded her in death) and Alfred Brown. On January 26, 1985, Mother Maggie Brown united in holy matrimony with Bro. Robert Briggs Hamilton. She was employed with the Campbell Soup Company for thirty- eight years, until her retirement. Mother Maggie Hamilton’s, spiritual journey started at the age of five. In 1932 she united with the S.C. of the House of Jacob of the United States of America, Inc. Mother Maggie has been a member for eighty-six years. She held numerous offices in every auxiliary and served with zeal and joy. She loved gospel music and singing. Mother Maggie was even seen still playing the tambourine at the age of 91. We would love to hear her sing one of her favorite songs, “I’ve Got Joy Over in Jacob.” Her presence in the Salisbury congregation will be missed. Those left to cherish the memory of Mother Maggie Hamilton are her husband, Brother Robert Briggs Hamilton of Salisbury, MD; one son, Alfred Brown (Salisbury), one niece, Betty Rolley-Cottman (Athens, GA) two sisters-in-law; Adv.Sr. Mtr. Kathleen Leatherbury (Samuel) of Salisbury, Maryland, and Mtr. Carolyn Bungy (Wilmington, DE), Seven grandchildren; Gerrard Davis (Joanne), Robin Brown-Hull, Cassandra Brown-Williams, James Brown Jr. (Iesha), Kimberly Brown, Andy Brown (Jennifer) and Carla Davis-Leonard. Fifteen great grandchildren, Seventeen great-great grandchildren. one god-daughter, Elderess Tabitha Jones-McKnight (Ammon) of Columbus, OH and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
