Lula Mae Abrams

Obituary Lula Mae Abrams was born January 8, 1944, in Macon, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Gladys Balam and Willie Balam. August 16, 1962, Lula joined in holy matrimony to Sammie Lee Abrams until his death in 2001. Lula was a humble, good natured woman of God, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer kind words of encouragement to everyone she met. At the age of 24, she became a member of Holy Temple, COGIC under the leadership of Bishop James L. Eure, later a member of Lighthouse Full Gospel, COGIC under the leadership of Bishop Paul R. Harmon. Faithful, devoted and dedicated in services until her health failed. Lula served tirelessly and unselfishly as Mother of her church and was known throughout her community for sharing the message of salvation. She had a way of making those around her feel loved. Her legacy will continue to inspire us. She was employed by Social Services in Wicomico County in 1973, then worked at the Holly Center from 1977 until she retired in 2002. She was awarded on many occasions for her work as a Human Services Aide, and exemplary services to Developmentally Disabled Citizens, AFL-CIO Applications Council, Appreciation Awards and many others, for her valuable contributions to her employer. Lula enjoyed family time, Bible Study, Sunday School, word search, crocheting, reading the Bible daily, but most importantly doing things to please the Lord. She leaves to mourn: one daughter, Sandy Abrams Dashields (Michael); two sons, Willie Balam and Tyrone Abrams; three sisters, Delois Taylor, Lucille Palmer, all of Salisbury, MD, and Arlene Hughes; one brother, Charlie Balam (Nancy) of Hebron, MD; grandchildren, Jasmine, Alisha, Willow and Antwoine; many great-grands and great great-grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. In addition to her mother, Gladys and stepfather, Emerson Gale; her father, Willie Balam, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Lee Abrams, her son, George Anthony Abrams; a brother-in-law, Joesph Palmer, and a niece, Angela Pullum.
