Lucille Morris Moore

Obituary Lucille Morris Moore was born on June 15, 1930 in Salisbury, Maryland, the daughter of the late Hortense Jones and Stanford Morris. She departed this life on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 3:00 am at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. God called her home to be with Him after a six-year long battle following open heart surgery in 2011. Lucille fought a good fight until the end, despite being paralyzed on one side of her body, due a stroke. She was a woman of God, a woman of great faith and a prayer warrior who fought until she could fight no more. Lucille attended the Wicomico public school system and graduated from the former Salisbury High School. She met and married the love of her life, Welthus Moore, and they had a beautiful marriage of 52 years. Lucille held employment at various places including Campbell Soup, Holly Center and R.E. Powell's. Wanting more for her life and her future, she received formal training and became a Microbiologist Technician at the Maryland Department of Agriculture, where she was employed for18 years until she retired. After retirement, Lucille joined the Salvation Army Performing Laser Group, where she performed and danced one day a week with her favorite friends Sylvia Ward, Mildred Flemings, Rachel Gale and Beulah Nutter. She was an active, faithful, excited and devoted lifetime member of St. James A.M.E Church for 52 years until her illness. Lucille loved going to church every Sunday and usually never missed a Sunday. She was member of the mass choir, the Mack Choir, a missionary and chairperson of the Women’s Day. She loved all her pastors of the church—Reverend Mack, Reverend Dr. M. Luther Hill and Reverend Dr. McClendon and their family's. She dearly loved her family and friends and had such a big heart with a beautiful smile. She was a beautiful woman both inside and out and had such a sweet spirit. Lucille loved shopping and did it quite frequently, almost daily. She wore beautiful suits and hats to church, as well as fancy shoes. She loved her red lipstick which she wore to church on Sundays. Lucille had a great life which she enjoyed to the fullest. She took a trip to Israel as a missionary, went on several cruises to Jamaica, and loved reading the newspaper every morning and evening with her cup of coffee. She enjoyed reading books and journals about her health issues and she loved to stay informed. She also enjoyed daily crossword puzzles, watching the news, Jeopardy and Family Feud. She was very intelligent, knowledgeable and articulate. Lucille loved to laugh and loved life and all that it had to offer her. Lucille Moore loved her family, her husband, the late Welthus Moore, her siblings, nieces and nephews. She spent time visiting her sister, the late Nellie Purnell who lived next door to her, and her cousin, the late Betty Gunter. Her brother Robert “Bobby” visited her frequently, as well as her niece the late Monica Jones. Lucille also enjoyed spending time with her sister-in-law, Evelyn Jones, who visited frequently and her nephew-in-law Junior and nieces, Cheryl Wharton and Dr. Natalie Jones. Lucille never gave up on God and kept the faith. She leaves to mourn her memories: one brother, Robert “Bobby” Morris (Velline); favorite cousin, Clara Mae De Vane of Manhattan, NY; brother-in-law, Bernard Purnell (Louise); sisters-in-law, Evelyn Jones and Esther Jones of California; half sister, Pat Fletcher; half brothers, Cecil and Larry Maddox; nieces, Dr. Natalie Jones, Cheryl Wharton (Wayne), Tanya Collick and Dee Dee McGlotten; 2nd cousins, Faye and Nathalie, and Pugh Farrington; nephews, Bernard Purnell (Rene) of Bowie, MD, Carl Jones, Dean Morris (Cynthia) and Robert Morris (Diane); nephew-in-law, Junior; great nieces, Alexis Jones, Bianca Giddins, Tracey Brown, Michelle Purnell and Samantha and Sofia Stancu; great nephews, Keith (Heather) and Brian (Mary) Hammond of Abingdon, MD, Wayne Wharton, Jr. and Ronald and George Brown; good friends, Mrs. Sylvia Ward, Mildred Fleming, Rachel Gale and Beulah Nutter and other friends and family too numerous to mention. Lucille Moore was a wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and dear friend and she will forever be missed, loved and remembered. She has gone home to Glory to be with the Lord at age 86.
