Lorraine Hilda Tate

On April 20, 1930, the fourth of ten children, of the late Jefferson and Maggie Freeman. was born in Butlertown, MD (Kent County), and given the name Hilda Lorraine Freeman. She departed this life on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. She was educated through Kent County Public Schools. Lorraine was well known for doing what she loved to do most, singing and playing the piano! During her youth, she was a member of Mt. Olive A.M.E Church, where she sang and played for the church. Every Sunday morning, Lorraine and her cousin, the late Violet Potts, sang over the radio. Lorraine was joined in holy Matrimony to John Tate, April of 1955. After she married, she changed her membership to Joshua Chapel, where she played and sang for the Mass Choir, Stars of Hope, and the Mellonette on the Millington and Pondtown charge. Lorraine was a member of many groups, including: The Blue-Ribbon Chorus, Love Ye One Another Choir, the Freeman Sisters, and the 100 Voices choir. Additionally, her son Edgar, and she, sung duets at various churches. Not only could Lorraine play and sing, she was known for baking delicious homemade pastries and doing craft work. She also liked watching Two and Half Men on TV. Lorraine was employed for numerous years at Vita Foods Company in Chestertown, MD. Also, she worked at Chester River Motel and for various families around Kent County doing domestic work. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband John Tate; three brothers, Cleveland, Carlton, and Wendell, and three sisters; Virginia, Bessie, and Joyce. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Edgar Freeman; one brother, Clyde Freeman, Butlertown, MD; two sisters, Jean (William) Butler, Philadelphia, PA and Ermyn Black, Butlertown, MD; one Godchild, Veronica Newman, Chestertown, MD, eight nieces, five nephews, nine great nieces and eight great nephews, one brother-in-law Leroy Thompson, Chestertown, MD and two sister-in-law Laurette Freeman, Butlertown, MD and Helen Tate, Washington D.C as well as a host of cousins and friends.
