Lolita Clara Horsey

Lolita Clara Horsey, daughter of the late Mary Gayle and Curtis Brewington, was born Saturday, June 14, 1930, in Laurel, Delaware. Lolita departed this life on Monday, May 7, 2018, at Genesis Health Care Center in Seaford, Delaware at the age of 87. Mother Horsey, as she was affectionately called, received her education at Paul Laurence Dunbar School in Laurel, Delaware. Mother Horsey was a dedicated wife of 67 years to Elder Clifford James Horsey. They had two daughters, the late Pastor Ethel Oney and the current pastor of Mt. Zion Holy Church in Delmar, Delaware, Elder Diane Winder. Mother worked as a domestic housekeeper for several people for over 30 years. She helped those families raise their children and their grand-children. Mother Horsey gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She has labored under the leadership of many pastors, being fully committed to the will of the Almighty God. She has touched the lives of many people, young and old, encouraging them to accept the gift of salvation. She has left a legacy of love to many. Mother Horsey was a loyal and dedicated woman of God, always putting God first. She was faithful to Mt. Sinai and the Mid Atlantic District. Mother sang on the Senior District Choir. She was secretary and Senior Mother at Mt. Zion, Delmar, Delaware. She loved going to the various conventions every year and fellowshipping with the Saints of God. This gave her so much joy. Mother Horsey has never met a stranger. One of her favorite sayings was, “Come on back and let’s do it all over again.” Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. Her favorite songs were, Too Close to the Mirror, I Know God is Able, Traveling Shoes, and Are You Ashamed to Own Jesus, He’s Not Ashamed of You. In addition to her parents and daughter, Mother Horsey is preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Everett; two brothers, Ralph and Curtis Brewington; a half-brother, Gilbert Brewington; and great-grandson, Kyle Newman. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Clifford; daughter Diane and her husband, Therman; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; 2 Goddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
