Lizzie Oney

Lizzie Mae Badger-Perkins, better know as “BABE”, daughter of James and Isabelle Badger-Perkins, was born Tuesday, April 11, 1933, in Nassawadox, Virginia. She departed this life, Sunday January 20, 2019, at the age of 85, at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes, Delaware. She received her education at Northampton Public School in Northampton, Virginia. While she was in Virginia, she attended New Allen Memorial A.M.E. Church in Franktown, Virginia. After attending school, she began working in the agriculture field in Virginia. At the age of 18, she traveled from church to church singing hymns. She even said that her role model was Mahalia Jackson. After working in the agriculture field, Lizzie moved to Delaware, where she started working at the Doxsee Clam House in Lewes. After leaving Doxsee’s, she worked at Cargill and Perdue, both poultry plants in Sussex County, Delaware. In the 1950’s, while in Delaware she became a full time mother of six children: James Jr, Diana, John, Noah, Sheila and David. She also became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She later became a member of St. John 2nd Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend C.N. Sample. She began singing in the Senior Choir and became the Vice President, then shortly after, she became the President. She also was a faithful deaconess. Lizzie was a loving, wise, kind, sweet, patient, straight forward and God-fearing woman. She enjoyed doing her daily phone ministry making sure someone heard a word from the Lord. She loved eating and cooking, especially her famous yeast rolls. She enjoyed watching Jimmy Swaggart programs and for a little laugh, Family Feud. She made sure that not a day went by that she didn’t do a word search. She always made time to worship God with songs like, JESUS PAID IT ALL, PRECIOUS LORD TAKE MY HAND and THE LORD WILL MAKE A WAY SOMEHOW. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Isabelle Badger- Perkins; brother, Cecil Wise; sisters, Gladys Mae Wise & Ethal Mae Wise; sons, James Collins, Jr. and Noah Lee Collins. Lizzie leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Diana Collins of Millsboro, DE, Sheila Collins and John Collins (Brenda) both of Laurel, DE and David Collins of Bridgeville, DE; godson, Vaughn Trammell; sisters, Elizabeth (Leroy) Mullen and Rosie Perkins of Georgetown, DE; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends, including her loving home health aides & CNA's of Harbor Healthcare.
