Lester Gary Young Sr.

LESTER’S JOURNEY Lester Gary Young, Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend, was born on October 20, 1949, to the late Lucious Young and Marjorie Lee Young in Salisbury, Maryland. He was educated in Wicomico County Public Schools, graduating from Salisbury High School, Class of 1967. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity, warmth, and unwavering love for those fortunate enough to have known him. In May of 1977, he was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Carolyn Jones Young. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Lester Jr., Michelle, and Ricky. Lester was employed by E.I. DuPont in Seaford, Delaware, for 36 years as a polymer control operator, where he gained many lifelong friends who became like family. A steadfast pillar in his family, he was the kind of father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who always put others before himself. His generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was offering a helping hand to a neighbor in need, supporting a friend, or simply showing up whenever his loved ones needed him most. His family and friends were his world, and he filled their lives with laughter, wisdom, and an open-hearted kindness that will never be forgotten. He loved capturing memorable moments from family reunions, BBQs, graduations, and gatherings with his beloved camera and camcorder, ensuring every precious moment was preserved. Lester also had a passion for luxury and sporty cars. Many remember his unique style, including his iconic Pepto Bismol Pink Cadillac with pink and white polka dots, but nothing topped his excitement for his “Firey Red Pontiac Trans AM.” Though calm in demeanor, Lester was known for being direct and honest, often without a filter. You always knew when Lester entered the room because of his loud, signature laugh and infectious smile. He is survived by: his sons, Lester G. Young, Jr. and Ricky Jones and daughter, Michelle Jones, all of Salisbury, Maryland; granddaughter, Brooke Hutt of Delmar, Maryland; grandsons, Davonta Foreman of Chestertown, Maryland and Andrew Young (Britney) of Salisbury, Maryland and great-grandchildren, Dae’Nyjah, Ka’Myra, Ah’mari, Rowin, Auden, and Eden. He also leaves behind his sister, Alece Young of Salisbury, Maryland; uncle, Otis Jones of Salisbury, Maryland; brother-in-law, Earl Donaldson of Quantico, Maryland; brothers-in-law, Clinton Jones (Doris) and Glendon Jones, both of Salisbury, Maryland; nieces, Carla, Leslie, Tywanda and Latashsia; nephews, Earl Jr., Vaughn, Lamont and Victor (Diamond); special cousin, Shakem Brown; special daughter, Terrell Sample; grandson, Schyler Sample and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carolyn Jones Young, brothers, Vaughan Young and Robert Young, and sisters Doretha Wilson, Vivian Donaldson, and Yvette Young. Though we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well lived.
