Leslie C. Pettie

Evangelist Leslie Cofield Pettie was born January 29 to John and Lucille Wilson Cofield in Franklin, Virginia. She graduated from C. G. White High School in Powellsville, North Carolina. Afterwards she moved to New York City to live with her oldest sister, Mary Tankard. Her first job in New York City was at a doll factory in lower Manhattan. There she acquired the skills allowing her to make her own clothing and hats. Her artistic abilities enabled her to become and accomplished pianist and overall musician. Leslie met the love of her life Willie Ray Pettie in the year of 1953. They were married shortly after in 1954 in Community Baptist Church, New York City. After marriage, she worked in New York as a secretary for West Chester County Administration where she retired. Evangelist Leslie Pettie first met the Lord at First Baptist Church in Colerain, North Carolina. She later attended Community Baptist Church in New York City. Upon receiving the Holy Spirit in Pennsville, New Jersey, a ministry was born. Leslie then began having prayer meetings in her own home. This ministry grew to missionary work in visiting other countries, a weekly radio program called “To His Glory”, and a daily prayer tower. Evangelist Leslie Pettie leaves to mourn three sisters; Mary Tankard, Bessie Reid, Eunice Ellison and one brother, William Howard Cofield, all from New York City.
