Leon West

REFLECTIONS Leon West departed this life peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at home. He was born on January 1, 1940 to the late James and Corrine West. He received his formal education in the Accomack County school system. He was a graduate of Mary N. Smith Senior High School. During his twenty (20) years of service at Peninsula Regional Medical Center (formerly Peninsula General Hospital) in Salisbury, Maryland, Leon met the love of his life, Ella Mae. He retired from PRMC while also working part-time for the A&P Grocery store. He later retired from Delmarva Power and Light Company after twenty-five (25) years and eventually ventured into lawn care and maintenance. His Christian training began at an early age. He was devoted and an extremely active member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church. He was a faithful, dedicated and devoted parishioner. Leon served as an Emeritus of the Trustee Board, Class Leader, president of the Male Chorus and member of the Mass Choir, while being a service to other inspirational ministries in the church. Leon was joyous and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing pool, dancing, going to car shows and singing. He was known to take “Center Stage” while singing his favorite song “Jesus on the Main Line” at church. He had a loving spirit, yet witty and jovial. You could always find him with a smile and numerous comments to share. Although profound, his dress was immaculate in appearance; his style and swag, awarded him Mr. “GQ.” He was always concerned about the welfare of those close to him. He would have little or nothing in his pocket, with no one knowing but he and the Lord. He is survived by: his wife, the “Jewel”, the Apple of his Eye, Ella Mae West and daughter, Leslie (Louis) Larkins of Waukegan, Illinois; two sisters, Bertha Duffy of Salisbury, Maryland and Annette (Terry) Garris of Tasley, Virginia; sister-in-law, Lottie Ward of Salisbury, Maryland; three aunts, Eula Beckett of Salisbury, Maryland, Julia Beckett of Accomack, Virginia and Martina Beckett of Onancock, Virginia; Godchildren, Walter Briddell, Devon Bunting, Tony White, Jr. (“T.J.”), Crystal Brinson, Tammy Ballard and Sierre Petty; nieces, Kimberly Ward, Heather (Farrell) Evans, Shannika Duffy, Lisa Duffy, Shisha (Pete) Kellam, Kima Duffy, Shawanda Jackson and Shameia Jackson; special great niece and nephew Brianna Middleton ad Makia Ward Collick; devoted friends, Danny Thomas Ernest Paskin, Gene Cray, Philmore White and Wayne Roberts and a host of nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and extended family.
