Lawrence Niskey

Lawrence Niskey Sr., was born Friday, November 9, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Esther Niskey. He went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2020. He attended secondary school in Princess Anne, Maryland, and later went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and began a career as an educator. He also earned his Master of Science degree from Virginia State College and continued his graduate education at the University of Wisconsin. Later, he taught at the higher education level. Lawrence taught for many years in the Maryland and Virginia public school systems, where he touched the lives of many students. Later in life, he went on to work for Sea Watch International, as a quality control technician, where he retired. On October 15, 1951, Lawrence married Nina Taylor Niskey and they raised two sons and a daughter, Lawrence Jr., Brian and Sandra. Lawrence served his country, during the Korean War, in the United States Army as a combat engineer, while stationed in Germany. Lawrence was a member of the American Legion, a veteran’s service organization. He also served as a Trustee for his church and enjoyed the fellowship of his church family. In his leisure, Lawrence enjoyed going fishing, working in his vegetable garden, trying out new recipes to cook and playing with the family’s yellow lab. He also loved crab feasts and get-togethers with family and friends. He enjoyed sports, especially watching basketball, football and horse racing. Lawrence also had a passion for doing carpentry work, home repairs/fixing things around the house and working on the car. He enjoyed reading Popular Mechanics magazine. He had a knack for understanding how things worked and he could fix almost anything when it broke. He was always there to help relatives and friends or others that were in need of help. Lawrence was preceded in death by his mother, Esther and his wife of 63 years, Nina. Lawrence is survived by his three children, Lawrence Niskey, Jr. of Easton, MD, Sandra Niskey of Hurlock, MD and Brian Niskey (Christy) of Easton, MD; grandsons, Larry Henry of Greensboro, MD and Gavin Niskey of Easton, MD. He is also survived by many loving family members, Malcom Davis (Ruby) of Princess Anne, MD; Malvene Parker (Robert), of Lottsford, VA, Lana Davis, of Reston, VA, Malcom Davis, Jr. of Waldorf, MD and Eldon Hayman (Mary) of Washington, DC; sisters-in-law, Henrietta White, of Philadelphia, PA, whose husband, Vincent, is deceased, and Miriam Jackson of Philadelphia, PA, whose husband, Cory, is deceased; numerous cousins, loving in-laws, extended family and dear friends. Lawrence was known for his easy going, kind and compassionate spirit. He was a caring and loving father that was devoted to his family. He will truly be missed.
