Kenneth Edward Travis

Kenneth Edward Travis, the son of the late John and Marie Travers, peacefully departed this life Saturday, August 8, 2015 at his home. Kenneth better known as “Kenny” was born June 10, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised on Taylors Island and received his education in the Dorchester County public school system. Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army on June 4, 1952, where he faithfully served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on May 24, 1954. Upon his return, he was employed with the Municipal Utilities Commission for thirty-eight (38) years, upon his retirement. He was an active member of the Corporal Herman Hughes American Legion Post # 87 for several years. On April 15, 1978, Kenneth was united in Holy Matrimony to Marvel Jenkins. He joined Lane United Methodist Church at an early age. Later, he joined Waugh United Methodist Church, where he served for many years. He was an active member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Male Chorus and The Angelic Choir. Kenneth was a faithful member and was always willing to serve wherever he was needed. He had a tenor voice that just stood out. Kenneth was very dedicated, concerned and supportive in reaching his goal in financing his church. To share in his loving memories are, his wife, Rev. Marvel Travis; son, Charles Anderson; daughters, Deborah Tilghman and Rose Travis; stepson, Tyrome Elliott (Sandra); step- daughters, Vanessa Jenkins and Renako Randall; grandchildren, Troy James, Eugene Tilghman, and Tyrone Travis; step grandchildren, Lavone Ward, Christie Hackett, Lauren Elliott, Ryan Elliott, Shonda Jenkins, Anika Jenkins, Rasheka Molock and Kian Randall; nephew that was like a son to him, Carroll Travers, Jr.; niece, Debroah Travers; great nephews, Yarnell Travers and Tre’ Travers; great niece, Lisa Travers; great-great nephew, Gabriel Walker; brothers-in-law; Palestine Elliott, Sr. (Mary) and Frederick Elliott (Constance); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Ted (Gill) Stanley; brothers, Melvin Travers, Sr., and Carroll Travers, Sr.; sister, Hattie Travers; and step son, Terrence Jenkins.
