Kathleen Johnson

Kathleen Johnson, also known as Kathy, daughter of the late John Frank and Rhodia Guinn, was born on September 25, 1937 in Abanda, Alabama. She was the youngest of five children. GOD called her home on Sunday, April 3, 2016 in Baltimore, Maryland after a lengthy illness. Her family migrated from Alabama up through Florida and North Carolina eventually landed in Delaware. She was raised by the late David and Rosa Lee King. She received her early education from Wilson North Carolina Public School in Wilson, North Carolina where she graduated in June 1956. After she graduated from high school, she lived in New Rochelle, New York. On November 5, 1964, she married Harvey Johnson and from this union two children were born: Cynthia and Angela. Harvey was in the United States Air Force and they traveled to various states. Kathleen was a homemaker and occasionally worked outside of the home. She taught her daughters to be independent, well-rounded and to love the Lord. In 1977, they moved back to Delaware where they had a house built and Harvey retired from the Air Force. At a very early age, Kathleen gave her life to Christ. Kathleen and her daughters joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Dover, Delaware. She was actively involved in church ministries: Senior Choir, Mass Choir and the Director of the Children’s Sunbeam Choir. Kathleen was active in church throughout her life until her health started to fail. Kathleen enjoyed sewing and taught her daughters how to sew as well. She also liked all types of music. She was involved not only in the church choirs; but was also actively involved in choirs throughout the community. She was a member of the Red Hats. Kathleen was known for her hair bows and hats. She loved children, especially her four grandsons. Kathleen was full of life and will be missed by many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Guinn, Sr.; her daughter, Cynthia Johnson-Bridges; her mother-in-law, Willie Mae Johnson and her sisters-in-law, Johnnie Mae Guinn and Rachel Guinn. She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband, Harvey Johnson; her daughter, Angela Johnson; son-in-law, Timothy Bridges; her grandsons, Nathaniel Bridges (Tavonne), Joshua Marrow, Branden Bridges, Isaiah Marrow; her brothers, Arthur Guinn and Henry Guinn; nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
