Juanita West

On Saturday July 4, 2015, Juanita West’s loving spirit went on to dwell with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Juanita was born January 22, 1934 in Williamston, NC to the late Mack and Essie Williams. She was the youngest of 10 children, born to this union. Juanita came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1939, at the tender age of 6. She received her education in the Philadelphia Catholic and public school system. It was during the time that she lived in south philly in 1954, that she met the love of her life, William West. They were united in holy matrimony in January of 1967 and seven children came from this union. “Nit” which everyone called her, was the backbone who kept the family together. She worked at the Presbyterian Retirement Home as a dietary aide supervisor for 13 years and then became a CNA at Logan Square for 16 years before retiring in 1992. Juanita loved traveling, playing cards and various arts and crafts that involved spray painting (gold and black in particular). In addition to being a good provider, Nit was a loving and caring mother and grandmother to everyone who came into her home. This earned her the nickname “NANA” When Juanita entered the pearly gates, she will meet those who preceded her in death; her husband William West; four brothers Lesile, Jack, Leroy, and Joseph; five sisters Josephine, Mary Alice, Doris, Della and Violet; two grandchildren Dwyane and Corey, and a best friend Joan Murray Juanita leaves to cherish her children William Jr. (Johnnie Mae), Dorthea, Ricardo (Laquita), Annette, Vanessa (Aaron), Alonzo (Rochelle) and Anthony; brothers-in-law Luther Buie, John West (Diane); sisters-in-law Margaret Lowther; twenty three grandchildren Veron, Erion, Tyrese, Arese (Sabrina), Antwon, Danina, Ricardo Jr. (Tiyana), Raheem, Kasha, Calvin, Jamar, Lamar, Deja, Jessie, Marquise, Shaquille, Dominque, Nasir (Sylvia), Warren (Marqueta), Raven and Brian Jr.; forty one great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. One adopted daughter Queen Harris; one godchild Monique Smith; and two best friends Fannie Laneir, and Niecey Murray.
