Joyce Diann Lucas

Obituary Joyce Diann Maddox-Lucas was born in Marion, MD on January 8, 1953, the daughter of the late Willie and Gertrude Maddox. Following a brief illness, Diann transitioned from this life in earth to her eternal reward on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the home of Annie Rolley, with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. Diann received her formal education in the Somerset County Public School System. She started her education at the Marion Consolidated School, then transitioned to Marion High School. Her education continued at Sojourner Douglas College, where she graduated in 2008. Diann loved to work, so her work history began at the Kingston Canning Factory, then continued with the Seaford Houses and Rubberset in Crisfield, MD. Her latest employments were the Wicomico County Food Services, and as a Foster Grandparent with Shore Up, Inc. Diann loved working with children. Diann was wedded in holy matrimony to the late Edward Lucas, Jr. To this union, one child, Dana DeWayne Lucas, was born. Diann was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed life and traveled extensively with her mother. She loved to cook, and her family enjoyed her meals. Diann joined and was a life time member at Waters Chapel United Methodist Church. After its closing, she attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Marumsco, MD. Diann remained very active at church. Diann was a faithful member of Duncan Showell American Legion Auxiliary Post 231 for 17 years. She held several positions including Sergeant of Arms, Historian and President of the Auxiliary for the last 2 years. Diann also held several positions with the South Eastern Shore District (S.E.5S.D.) Chairman of Community Services. Diann was very out-spoken, and those who knew her, admired her for who she was. In addition to her mother, Gertrude Maddox, she will be fondly missed by: one son, Dana (Nichelle); two grandchildren, Dana Dewayne, Jr. and Dachelle; her siblings, Richard (Judy), Shirley (Eugene), Hamphey (Sprigena), Kenneth (Jonelle) and Elton (Pinetta); special friends, Lucille Maddox, Selina Sterling, Jeanette Whittington, Kay Rolley, Karen Whaley, Angela Armwood and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her dad, Willie Maddox, Diann was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Maddox.
