John W. Ingram Sr.

The Father in His infinite wisdom saw fit to call his son, John I. Ingram, Sr., 93 years old, from labor to reward on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:10a.m. at the Delaware Hospice Center, in Milford, Delaware. John was the second oldest child born to the late Alfred and Eva Caroline Ingram on September 22, 1918 in Georgetown, Delaware. He attended the Richard Allen School in Georgetown, Delaware. He left school at an early age to work along with his father to help provide for the family. After his father’s death, John was drafted into the Army in 1943. He was stationed in Louisville, Kentucky and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. In June of 1947, John married Evelyn Crapper. They were married for 67 years and often enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and traveling on vacation. They would travel to Norfolk, Virginia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to visit relatives. Spending time with family was their most enjoyable pastime. John was a skilled laborer and worked many jobs of multiple crafts. He did construction work, drove delivery trucks and delivered oil, lumber, and concrete in all areas of Sussex County. John was actively involved with the American Legion Post #38, Warrington-Ingram Post in Georgetown, and participated in politics in helping to get people to vote. All family and friends knew that John loved to play checkers and cards, and if you were playing with him, you surely knew you would never win. During his active years, he was involved in the church and sang with the Prospect Men’s Choir of Prospect A.M.E. Church in Georgetown, Delaware. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife, Evelyn Ingram; Children: Edward Blockson (Ruby), Harry Crapper (fiancé, Marilyn), John I. Ingram, Jr. (Rosalyn), Preston Ingram; grandchildren: Loriann Kilgoe, Toya Bolden (Fernandez), Annette Bivens (Floyd), Robin White, Desmond Kilgoe (Tonya), Harry Crapper, Jr. (fiancé, Lisa), Kevin Crapper (Elaine), Jonathan Crapper (Tracy), Kendall Crapper (Karen), Sharon Farlow (Marvin), Thlisha Hollingsworth (Tyrone), John I. Ingram III (Marie), Tim Slade, Marcus Hall, Israel Smith and Jonda Ingram McCafferty (Shawn); 14 great-grandchildren: Desmond, Jr. Jabias, Andreona, Marvin, Jr. Marlon, Shalisha, Charnell, Sincere, Lisa, Haliya, JaBria, Shawn, Jr. Tahj and Jenna. He also leaves to mourn four sisters: Sarah Coleman of Smyrna, Clara Ingram of Millsboro, Dorothy Sturgis and Agnes (John) Williams of Georgetown.; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
