John Gross Jr.

John Robert Gross, Jr., was born on September 8, 1931 to the late John and Gertrude Gross in Centreville, MD. He departed this life peacefully on November 7, 2016, at the Easton Memorial Hospital. He was 85 years old. John, formally known as “Jack”, attended Queen Anne’s County Public Schools. Upon his completion of school, John enlisted in the United States Army. After serving his country he received an honorable discharge. For many years he worked for Mr. Egon Kramer as a farmer, which he enjoyed doing. In addition to farming he was also employed by Friels Company as a truck driver. John was a member of Earl’s Chapel Church of Centreville, MD, which he supported gracefully. John was a wonderful provider. If there was anything his family needed, he would work hard to make sure they received it. He and his wife opened the doors of their home to family to stay for periods of time. He raised several of his grandchildren as if they were his own. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards in his spare time. Let’s not forget his love for the Dover Downs Slots. Jack had a “green thumb”. Every year you could look forward to seeing him out in the field growing crops. He was a very dedicated person. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude; 4 brothers, Herbert, Raymond, Walter and Frank; 2 sisters, Lillie and Marie; one granddaughter, Felicia Demby; one son-in-law, Ralph Wright, and his wonderful wife, Betty of fort-five years, whom he missed very much. He leaves to cherish his memory seven children; four sons, John R. Gross, III of Millington, MD, Vernon L. Gross (Tracy) of Worton, MD, Christopher A. Gross of Chester, MD, and Michael A. Gross of Annapolis, MD; three daughters, Betty A. Brooks (Charles) of Millington, MD, Patricia Wright of Grasonville, MD and Lorene Henry (Charles) of Centreville, MD; one sister, Gertrude Ryans (William) of Centerville, MD; two sisters-in-law, Jean Turner of Queenstown, MD and Helena Griffin of Preston, MD; a very special grandson whom he treated like a son, Vernon Lee Gross, Jr.; a special friend, Jean Felton of North Carolina, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
