John T. Gray

John Thomas Gray, son of the late John and Clara Gray, was born on April 11, 1936 in Milford, DE. He departed this world on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at his home in Lincoln, DE, with his children and grandchildren by his side. John was educated at William Henry High School. He later served in the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Later, he married the love of his life, Emma Louise Benson on May 11, 1967. From this union, they had six children. He worked for Walt Swain Construction for 10 years. He also worked side by side with Louise at Owners Management Inc. for more than 20 years before retiring. After retiring, he worked for Milford Manor for six years before relocating to Chandler, AZ in 2006. He returned home in January of 2012. He was a faithful member of Hubert A.M.E. Church since the tender age of four years old. He enjoyed singing in the Men’s Choir, while playing the piano for them. He also sang in the choir. He was also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Milford since 2013. John loved to play the keyboard more than life itself. He also enjoyed spending time at Medd’s Market in Milford, DE, having breakfast and talking with his friend, Scotti. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Charles Hoxter, James and Stanford Gray; and his beloved granddaughter, Lucinda Jackson. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Barbara (Lawrence) Jackson of Harrington, DE and Velma (Kim) Adams of Townsend, DE; four sons, Harry (Angie) Benson of Greenwood, DE, Berlin (Sharon) Benson of Chandler, AZ, John (Loretta) Benson of Lincoln, DE and Darryl (Senta) Benson of Silver Spring, MD. He also leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Guinn (Arthur) of Frederica, DE, Wayne (Octavia) Gray of San Antonio, TX, Robert (Rachel) of Middletown, DE; 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a special daughter-in-law, First Sgt. Loretta Benson and his special grandchildren, “Little Hook” Brandon Harris, Sidira and Sabreia “Muffin” Waples. He also leaves special friends, Frankie Fountain, Ernest Scott and Charles Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
