John Stephen Dennis

John Stephen Dennis, affectionally know as “Steve” was born on August 27, 1957, in Trenton, New Jersey to the late Thomas and Mary Dennis. He accepted Christ at a very early age and became a member of the Wayne Avenue Baptist Church in Trenton, NJ. Steve was a 1975 graduate of Trenton Central High School as well as an active basketball prayer for the Trenton High Senior Varsity Basketball Team. He was also known for having the biggest Afro in the school. After graduating high school, Steve took a job as a truck driver with his father, in their family owned business, Dennis Beauty Sales and Distributors. In 1977, Steve joined the U. S. Army, where he served until he injured his knee playing basketball. Steve worked for the New Jersey Department of Corrections as a Senior Correction Office for over 25 years. He was an officer at the Trenton State Prison and the Albert Wagner Youth Correctional Facility, in Bordentown, New Jersey, until his retirement in 2004. In 1987, Steve met his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Dennis. They were inseparable until her recent passing in March 2017. Steve was a very pleasant and loving man, with a great sense of humor. He didn’t talk much, but he could really make you laugh. His presence was always welcomed among family and friends. He was a very genuine person and loving brother to all of his siblings. Steve was a big football and basketball fan. Sunday night football, he was READY! He also enjoyed spending time in various casinos, bargain shopping, reading his Bible and worshipping with his cousin, Apostle Jeanette Gilbert, on Sunday mornings. Steve was a loving husband and brother who will truly be missed. He leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Helen Dennis-Butler of Dover, DE and Janet Adams (Robert) of Hamilton Township, NJ; one brother, Thomas Dennis, Jr. (Evetta) of Dover, DE; one uncle, George Robinson (Patricia) of Ewing, NJ; four nephews, Nathaniel Oliver of Bronx, NY, Quincy Oliver of Irvington, NJ, Henry Sykes of Hamilton Township, NJ and Eddie Butler Jr. of Dover, DE; three nieces, Venus White of Tabernacle, NJ, Tanisha Dennis and Camille Butler of Dover, DE, three special cousins, Apostle Jeanette Gilbert, Deacon Kenneth Dennis, both of Philadelphia, PA and Evangelist Tresal Scott of Port Chester, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
