Jerry Henry Batson

Jerry H. Batson known as “Jim” to the family and “Batman” to the trucking world; at age 71, earned his wings to Eternal life with Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Genesis Nursing Home in Seaford, Delaware. Born in Oak Grove, Delaware to the loving parents: the late Jerry Jeremiah Batson and Hattie Marie (Ricketts) Batson. Jerry was the youngest male of fifteen siblings, of whom 3 passed away at an early age. Jerry joined in heaven his deceased wife Racella Williams Batson and his siblings: Alfred, Charles, William, Addie, Martha, and Mary Virginia as well as his oldest son Carl Rene Trammell. In addition to his siblings, he is survived by Louis and Rosalie Batson (brother), Pearl and Leon Lofland (sister), George and Vanessa Batson (Brother), Doris Ann and Jural Butler (sister) and Shirley Mae Batson (sister). He leaves behind to honor and cherish his memories children: Denise and Emmett Lenoir (Wilmington, Delaware); Jerry A. Batson (Wilmington, Delaware); Jerry O. Sample (Harrington, Delaware); Jetuan and Charles Tingle (Bridgeville, Delaware); Sherlene and Quintous Coles (Auburn, Georgia); Martina Cannon (New Castle, Delaware); Lamont and Denise Rose (Federalsburg, Delaware); 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Jerry was a faithful member his entire life to his home church Bethel United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, Maryland. His favorite music and hymns were by the Canton Spirituals, Alabama Spirituals as well as “I am Redeemed” by Jessy Dixon and “Rough Side of the Mountain” by Rev. F. C. Barnes. Jerry had a motto: “The good outweighed the bad”. Jerry had a true love for trucks at an early age along with his brothers and started driving while he attended Fred Douglass School. Jerry led a life of driving 18-wheeler trucks and dump trucks. He was committed to “We Care” Trucking & Bus Drivers Association and was faithful to the organization. Jerry was a humble, strong-willed man; he loved his trucks, children and grandchildren. There wasn’t a time he didn’t teach one of his grandchildren –Joshua, his traits of loving trucks. He attended three of his daughters’ weddings and his son Carl’s wedding. Jerry was truly covered by God’s grace and mercy the last weeks of his life; he had the peace of God all over him…The Good truly dose outweigh any bad in life; especially when the grace of God is upon your life.
