Jean Showell

Jean Olivette Louise Showell, was born on November 1, 1947, to the late James William Showell and Mary Kathryn Hood, in Laurel, Delaware. She was 73 years old when she transitioned into eternal rest on September 30, 2021, at the Genesis Seaford Center in Seaford, Delaware. Jean received her education at Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School in Laurel, Delaware, Richard Allen School in Georgetown, Delaware, William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, Delaware and finally received her diploma from James H. Groves School in Georgetown, Delaware. Later she enlisted in Job Corps in Drum, Pennsylvania and received her degree in cosmetology. Jean joined United Church of First Born in Salisbury, Maryland, in May 1978, now under the leadership of Elder Richard E. Morris. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Jean loved life and lived it to the fullest. She worked at Laurel Head Start in Laurel, Delaware, 28 years at Maryland Plastics in Federalsburg, Maryland and 10 years at Walmart in Georgetown, Delaware. She had many long-lasting friends on these jobs. Jean loved her daughter and her grandkids dearly, nieces, and nephews and other family members. Her grandkids were her world. Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Shambre’ Nakita Showell; parents, and sister, Joyce Ann Showell. Jean leaves to cherish her memory, two grandchildren, Michael T. Sample, Jr. of Bridgeville, DE and Jaynaye Sincere Showell of Princess Anne, MD; one sister, GraCynthia Mills of Bridgeville, DE, two nieces, Sabrina K. Johnson (Michael) of Salisbury, MD and Alesia G. Hull (Donal) of Bridgeville, DE; two nephews, Rudolph S. Mills, Jr. (Verlene) of Lawrenceville, GA and Terrence L. Showell (Evelyn) of Seaford, DE; one uncle, G. Arnold Hood of Seaford, DE; nine great nieces and nephews, Jevon L. Mills (Delia) of Salisbury, MD, Rayshawn V. McCrea of Bridgeville, DE, Chaudell D. Mills (Kimberly) of Salisbury, MD, Shamisha Horsey of Laurel, DE, Lamarcus Matthews (Natasha) of Woodstock, GA, Shanice Collins (Derrell) of Laurel, DE, Davonte’ Mills of Lawrenceville, GA, Duane K. Hopkins II of Bridgeville, DE and Toccara Baine of Seaford, DE; best friend, Shirley Gibbs of Seaford, DE; and numerous cousins and friends.
