Janice Ophelia Morris

Janice Ophelia Morris, was born October 12, 1948, in Houston, Delaware, to Garland and Gladys Brown. She transitioned home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2019. Janice was educated at Benjamin Banneker Elementary School, William Henry High School, and Delaware State University. She married Richard Morris on February 11, 1967, and from that union two daughters were born, Denise and Sheryl. Michael Costello, Barbara Kelly Costello, Pamela Pollard Williams, and Dionne Postley became her adopted children, whom were loved as her own. She encouraged her children to do and be their best at all times. Janice worked several jobs before finding her true calling at the Delaware Department of Correction, where she was employed for 25 years. She began her career as an officer and retired as a captain. She took great pride in doing her job and training others to reach their full potential in their positions. Janice attended Metropolitan Methodist Church in Harrington, Delaware, as a child. It was there that she discovered her love of music. She began playing piano and singing from the age of nine until she was 19. From there, she attended New Jerusalem Baptist Church until she moved to Wilmington, Delaware. In Wilmington, she attended Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church. After retiring, she returned to Dover and New Jerusalem. Later, she began attending Morning Star Institutional Church of God in Christ (MSI). She was an active Mother in the church. She loved her Pastor, her First Lady, and her church family. She also loved the services at MSI and her relationship with the Holy Spirit. Janice was a creative person who enjoyed writing and making jewelry, in addition to playing piano and singing. Janice was a copyrighted author of a book of poetry and she also wrote plays. Janice was preceded to the throne by her parents, Garland and Gladys Brown; brothers, William Brown and Merlyn Brown; and her sister, Marie Brown. Janice leaves to celebrate her life, her daughters, Denise Morris-General, Sheryl Morris, Barbara Kelly Costello, Pamela Pollard Williams, and Dionne Postley; her son, Michael Costello; sister, Geneva Brown-Noll (Donald); brother, George Brown; three grandchildren, Alysia Morris, Richard A. Morris and Michael Lee Costello; four great-grandchildren, Malik Crowder, Jr., Ahmad Crowder, A'Nahla Morris and Roman Morris; two god-daughters, Shannon and Tameka Cannon; ex-husband and cherished friend, Richard E. Morris; special family friends, the Gayle’s, the Vann’s, the Carr’s and the Holsey’s; and many more loving family and friends.
